Town reconsidering skateboard park plan À Skateboard Park for the Bowmanville Recreation Centre is to oe reconsidered during the 1990 budget meetings and was taken out of as a project for 1989. The Town received tenders for the construction of the Park and Ball Diamonds at the Recreation Complex with the lowest bid being $398,466. The Town had allocated $170,000 in the 1989 budget for the projects. As a result of the costs the pro posal for 1989 was pared down to field drainage, waterworks and electrical services at a tender bid of $1341,961.00. Which has been let by the Town. Don't drink and drive (Continued from page 12) As a responsible citizen,' social drinker, and an educator, I fepl that it is finally time to speak out against the senseless carnage which is occurring occurring on roads and highways throughout Ontario and around the world. y Are education programs having an impact? Healthy, young and capable people continue to be maimed and killed due to impaired drivers. Can this senselessness be stopped, or at least greatly reduced? Are alcohol and drugs too accessible? accessible? Those of us in positions of authority need to do our best to ensure ensure that they are not! Impaired driving after all is the responsibility of our entire community and not ; just that of those individuals'who indulge. Ml-. Andrew Allan Dear Parents: ' Far too frequently, the MontlaV morning news is about the death of, or the injury to a former student because of an accident influenced by alcohol. During my twenty-three years of teaching'in this area, the impact is always the same: disbelief, grief and anger. The students pledge not to let this happen again to another friend, but they don't have the power to handle the problem. There was an active S.A.D.D. group working out of Clarke High School, but it has lost its thrust. It is time to» start it up again. Parents must get involved and back up the program by being responsible role models for our children. Let's stop the madness.
