Orono Tyke players meet their match n The Orono Tykes Team 1 travelled travelled to Bowmanville-this past Saturday, Saturday, November 18th to play a 7:00 p.m game against I.D.A. Drugs. The excitement was high as the boys dressed for the game in the big new arena. The game got off to a fast start. We were not really expecting the kind of game we got from Bowmanville. Bowmanville. They had a very strong team with many good skaters. Bowmanville Bowmanville scored early in the first to take the lead. The skating was end to end until the 10 minute mark of the period when Bobby Witheridge scored for Orono. Assists went to Brad Copping and Kyle Moore. Unfortunately, Unfortunately, Bowmanville came back strong closing the period with two quick goals and taking a 3 - 1 lead. : The second period also had lots of action and scoring. Bowmanville struck first with a nice goal but Orono quickly came back with one of their own by Bobby Witheridge from Brandon Caruana. Bowmanville Bowmanville scored again mid way through the period but once more Orono was able to bounce right back with a goal from Bobby Witheridge, assisted by Greg Shetler. Bowmanville Bowmanville managed one more goal past net minder Paul Landers, just at the end of the period. Paul played very strong this period to keep the score close. Orono lost this period by a 3 - 2 score and the game score was now 6-3. The third period had lots more excitement in store. Again Bowmanville scored first" but Orono came back quickly with a goal from Bobby Witheridge. The next score came at the mid point of the period by Bowmanville, but again Orono was quick to answer with yet another goal by Bobby Witheridge. With just seconds left, Bowmanville got one more puck into the Orono goal. The third period score was 3 - 2 and the final score of the game was 9-5. As is obvious from the score, this was 'a very good game for both teams. Both goalies were very strong, each making some excellent saves. Paul Landers helped to keep the score close for Orono, especially ' in the final two periods. Also obvious obvious from the score sheet was the fact that Orono's Bobby Witheridge had a fine game scoring all five Orono goals. Bobby is off to a great start in the 89/90 season. There were some fine individual efforts efforts by many of the boys. Kyle Moore, Brad Copping, Jake Bon- netta and Matthew Reid each had break away attempts foiled by either strong goaltending or quick back checking defense. Greg Bester, Mike Gibson and Justin Standeven each put in a strong defensive and offensive game for Orono. The boys all played very well. If the same effort is put into all our future games, we are all in for an exciting season. Keep up the good work!
