FOR HIGH RISK AUTO INSURANCE Phone Wakefield Insurance Ontario Hydro was thwarted last week by the Atomic Energy Control Board in gaining approval to boost Darlington's No. 2 Reactor up to twenty percent from the one percent percent under which it has operated since early November. The Control Board stated it is still unhappy with several aspects of the shut-down system on the reac-, tor. The AECB is however ready to meet with hydro on short notice when alterations, as per re-, quirements, are made to t,he shutdown shutdown system. The AECB is also unhappy with the progress of the fire safety plan for the $12.5 billion plant and that agreement has yet to be reched with the Town of Newcastle. The board has deferred a decision on any further increase in power at Darlington until such time as staff install additional hard wired safety systems. Arvo Niitenberg, senior vice president of Hydro, he expects this work to be completed within the next two weeks. Niitenberg also has said Hydro will meet' with the Ministry of the Solicitor-peneral who he said agrees that Hydro has met the provincial provincial government standards as far as the fire plan is concerned. The meeting was held in Ottawa last Thursday which was attended by Larry Kotseff, chief administrative administrative officer for the Tbwn and solicitor, Dennis- Hefferon. Both spoke in opposition to upgrading capacity until all matters were settled. Larry Kotseff on Monday at council meeting said all safety matters matters at the plant have not been resolved and that if such matters were' not resolved the board could take such matters into their own hands. He said many issues still relate to the building code and the fire code. Mayor Hubbard said she suspected the hydro grey-out was planned to assist with approval at the AECB. She was critical of the fact that Ontario Hydro at their University Avenue office complex had the place glowing with lights. "We have to be assured of the public safety," stated the Mayor. She also commented, "If they want us to be the primary fire protection protection for the plant . . . tell us." Hydro shortage forces Lasco to cut production .
