There is no doubt that the hall could have greater utilization and the idea of entertainment evenings seems like a good one. The board has already suggested some interesting events and there is a lot of,talent in the community that perhaps is not recognized locally but does have credibility and stature when out of town. This, of course, is not unusual. The use of a Friends of the Hall committee and an open membership is a good direction in which to promote the hall and its use and ultimately providing entertainment for the community. Its not an easy thin to get people away from the television at night but the effort should be made and if one is part of the action they are more than likely to give greater support to any program. Lets just say - let it be done. A community effort It makes one feel good to witness what has to be community community involvement in a project and that certainly was the case last week at the official opening of the St. Francis of Assisi playground at the north end of the Memorial Park in Newcastle Village. The students are to be commended along with their teacher in fund raising on their parts but also the Great Pine Ridge Kinsmen and Kinettes, the school board, the Town of Newcastle and of course, the Parents' Association. It spreads the feeling of accomplishment over a broad spectrum of people and instills a greater awareness of what a community is all about. We help one another for greater enjoyment enjoyment and accomplishments. Well done - a great community effort. On Saturday, December 9th between between thirty-five and forty children and adults went lo Cullen Gardens, ft was an ideal night to tour the Gardens, cold but no wind. This was my first time to see the Gardens in all their winter splendour, 1 only hope the children found it as fascinating as I did, the animation and colour was wonderful, they had entertainment in ,one part of the Garden restaurant for the children, and many of the little ones joined in the singing of the songs. They also had Santa and I never saw him without a child on his knee. Be sure to go in to Lynde House when you go to the Gardens. It is like travelling travelling back in time, you have the feeling feeling you ar.e really living in that era. A wonderful way to spend a winters- eve, get some friends together and go'to a Winter wonderland. The ladies of the Kendal W.I., will be meeting at the church on Thursday, December 14th.
