To monitor plan for Junior Kindergarten The Durham Board of Education is to monitor a plan for Junior Kindergarten, for four year olds, which could come into effect in 1992. Consideration is to be given to cost, transportation, accommodation accommodation and other aspects of opening the school system for four-year olds. Sets new world record for discus throw Jim Shaw, a grade 11 student at Bowmanvielle High School has set a new world record in the discus throw. The new mark was set at the Junior International Disabled Games in Miami, Florida. A $50 million NHL obstacle Councillor Don Smith of Port Hope, has run into a $50 million bill if his bid for a NHL franchise for Port Hope would be successful. Above this cost would be the cost of a new arena and $5 million to Harold Ballard just for taking some of this area from the Maple Leafs. It has been reported that Smith is now considering the possibility of a Junior A expansion to the area. 14 year veteran Warden for Northumberland County Glen Quick, Reeve of Brighton, was acclaimed Warden of Northumberland Northumberland County last week. Dress code discussion continue unresolved As it stands now, the Separate School Board of Education students, will not be forced to wear school uniforms at the start of next year. The debate, however, is not yet over. The majority of parents and students at St. Mary's school voted against a mandatory dress code. The overall vote from Cobourg and Peterborough schools, did come in at a tie. Inquest of Cobourg jail suicides An inquest is being held as the result of two suicides within the last thirteen months at the Cobourg Jail. Jail officials are to look for signs of depression _and suicide inclinations, inclinations, then prisoners'would be placed placed on Level One with twenty-four hour observation. Deficit increasing at an alarming rate The Ministry of Municipal Affairs Affairs has urged, the Town of Port Hope to change its pattern of increasing increasing deficits which the Ministry states is increasing at an alarming rate. Late this fall the Town had a general revenue deficit of over half a million dollars following deficits of $303,938 in 1987 and $237,587 in 1986.
