KENDAL NEWS by Joan Anderson y The congregation of Kendal United Church braved the side roads made slippery by the rain and greeted a number of visitors from Kingsview United Church in Oshawa. After church we got to drive home in the dense fog. The first service of the new millenium held at Kendal United Church was patterned on John Wesley's "The Renewal of the Covenant" which he originated originated in 1762. This was usuall- ly held On the first Sunday of thé New Year-by his Methodist foUlowers in Britain and North America. They hymns were written by his brother Charles. The membership vows are those currently in use. The hymns chosen were Servants of God", "Maker .In Whom We Live", "Love divine, All Loves Excelling", the Covenant Hymn sung to the tune of "All Beautiful the March of Days", and closed with "Blest Be the Tie That Binds". The choir's anthem for this service "I Know Who Holds Tommorrow" was most appro- priate to start off a new century. Rev. John Sullivan's Message this Sunday was "Comfort, Courage and Criticism". We then read John Wesley's Covenant silently and renewed our Membership Vows before Passing the Peace. Concerns and Celebrations Rev. Sullivan commented on Sylvia Toffan's funeral and,, the outpouring of love and caring that surrounded Sylvia in her last days. Kendal Church congregation congregation was a part of this and were welcomed by her and her family. She truly was an inspiration inspiration to us all. Pearl Clark is still down with a bad cold. Our prayers and thoughts are with her. Visitors or cards to brighten her day would be welcomed. Pearl is the oldest inhabitant of Kendal and was still living in the house in which she had been born. Stolen V.C.R. Unfortunately^ someone decided' to break into Kendal United Church and steal the V,C.R. which had so kindly been bought and donated by one of our members. If you have heard anyone boasting of doing this, or someone suddenly turns up with a V.C.R. after New Year's Eve^ please question this. Let one of the church , congregation congregation know, or call Crimestoppers or the Durham Regional Police. It must be_ returned for the use of the youngsters in the Sunday School and Church Groups. Last Words "I've strayed, O Lord, and turned aside. I've disobeyed your voice; But now contrite of heart I turn And make Your will my choice." It is never too soon to turn back to God.
