BOWMANVILLE - AT QUEEN ST. ijnema •m The Way I See It Year 2000 EH! by Rolfe Wakefield How many people can say they have lived to see the dawn of a new century? We are all famous for the very fact of living, of passing from an old century into a new one. In 1900, Canada was a self-governing colony evolving into its' place in a world that had not seen its' like before. We matured and fought, lived and died, went from an Empire to a Commonwealth. A concept developed, encouraged encouraged and arranged by ourselves! ourselves! No other country of European background had ever^ done this before! No bloodshed like the Americans. No revolution like the other Americas. We are, were and will continue continue to be "unique". No other people in the world have fought in 2 major wars with a modest population population and produced an effort which was far greater on a proportional basis than any of the other nations. BACK TO 1900 Think about the, differences in our ancestor's daily living: food eaten, bathroom facilities, facilities, enjoyments - play and work. How we have changed and, evolved. Are we any better better off? Of course we are. The pessimists say NO. the realists realists say YES. Some times' I think the pessimists still believe the world Is flat. The elephant to the south of us has belched and burped, tries to stifle and seduce and will continue to do so. The Canadian character character has many strong forts of survival, after all we rearranged rearranged and outgrew our Imperialists beginnings to satisfy ourselves, and that was against the hungry British Bulldog. Sir Wilfred Laurier said "the 20th Century Is Canada's" and in many ways he was right. There are so many distinctive Canadian aspects to this past century: our unique medical care and medical advances, our Inventions, Inventions, our United Nations involvement which brought us world leadership and respect. We are being Americanized In some ways. Check Into the process and you will find a Canadian connection which made acceptance palatable and productive. The Canadian additions are better better than the original. Our entertainers (comedians, (comedians, musicians, singers and movie producers) are everywhere everywhere In North America, bringing a Canadian style that is first class. They will continue to be at the top of their professions In the future. The future of Canada is bright but being Canadian, we do not huff and puff and boast. We accept the fact that over 30 million people will help lead the world and be at the top of most of the better changes that will be made In the future. We as Canadians welcome the 21st century. It is a challenge challenge that will be well met. Call me to buy or sell..: Orono and area's real estate representative...
