Orono met Bowmanville Non-Contact on January 8 and were 4-0 winners. Andrew Fudge did the goal-tending job admirably. Fudgie informed us this was his second career shutout, assist game. Adam Wood scored the first goal of the new year on his great-grandmother's (Myrtle Wood) birthday. Assists went to Josh Dobson and Andrew Fudge. Matt Smit made it 2-0 assisted by Mike Bisson and Adam Wood. Blain Cox opened up the game assisted by Adam Wood and Matt Fuller. Matt Smit scored his second of the game assisted by Doug Deboo and Mike Bisson. The defense once again ruled the blue-line. This is a tough group of people to beat. The defense was Sarah Donnelly, Donnelly, Robyn Benderson, Jonathan Koerssen, Brien Konopka, Justin Westerink and Josh Dobson. Dennis Beenen, Kevin Bourke and Kenny Jackson played some great hockey! Orono Lumber midgets nail down two wins X On Thursday, January 6 the" Orono Lumber Midgets travelled travelled to Millbrook for their first game e in the New Year. The team anticipated a chippy bout with their Millbrook rivals and were not disappointed. The small ice surface kept both sides in close contact and the first period produced lots of action at both ends. At 14:22 in the second period, 1 the 'Lumbermen' lit up the score- board on with a goal from Jeff Thompson, assisted by defense- man Brandon Baker. When penalty delays began to eat away at the clock, it became apparent that the second period would be the last. Millbrook pulled their goalie only to have Ryan Tresise outwork the opposition opposition wrestling away the puck to score the insurance marker with 2:04 left in the game. Goalie Chris Burritt earned the shutout with a solid effort in net as well as heads-up defensive play by the rest of the 'Lumbermen' in the 2-0 win. This was captain, Tyler Robinson's first game back following following his shoulder injury. Good to have you back, Tyler. Sunday night's New Year home opener against Woodville, was Orono's opportunity to avenge a previous loss against this team. The Leafs did not disappoint with their skilled play. After much end-to-end . action, Ryan Tresise potted a nice goal on an assist from Rick Bowé with only 4 minutes left in the first period. The second period was much more productive in the goal department with Ryan Bornes scoring on a helper from Danny Tresise. The Leafs third goal was an unassisted effort by Derek Beerschop at the 12:44 mark. Woodville finally got on the board in the .second but Orono was not yet done. Bobby Witheridge came up with a nice effort to, score, assisted by Brandon Baker and Ryan Tresise. The scoreboard showed Orono ahead 4-2 going into the break. In the third period, Tyler Knight put the icing on the cake with a goal assisted by Witheridge. Scott Poole had a great game between, the pipes helping Orono to their 5-2 victory. victory. The Midget Leafs travel to Port Perry Monday, night followed followed by a game in Mariposa on Sunday evening. Henderson Tree The Henderson Tree Farmers spent a very productive weekend in Manvers Township at the Manvers Bockëy Association Major/Minor Tyke Tournament. Henderson's cam away at the end of the day as C' Division Champs with aA-1 win over their, League rivals Skylight Dounuts. Kurt Sloos ,and Christopher Kuijpers- popped in their first goals of the year with Tyler Webster notching a Bat trick with Ed Meester rounding out the goal scoring for ORONO. Devon Broome and Hunter Leech were solid on defence Impressive 14-10-2 finish for Russ Major Although the Russ Major Plumbing Novice Rep team were unable to finish off on a winning note, they did chalk up a very good season going 14- 10-2. On Friday, Orono played host to Omemee and were defeated 5-1. The lone goal was scored by Matt Dobson assisted by Andrew McClatchey. . • Sunday saw the Leafs make the long trek to Baliburton to meet the Fluskies. Orono came on strong drawing first blood at 8:02 of the first period with Jeremy Caruana scoring assisted by Jeffery Mulder and Joey Van- Dussen.
