12 Orono Weekly Times, Wednesday. February 23, 200o Retirement Party for Harley Elliott On February 16, 2000 a retirement party was held for Harley Elliott. Ron Robinson (R) presents Hailey (L) with a bladeless chain saw. He didn't get to keep it. Harley Elliott's Retirement Party - Wednesday evening, February 16, the Municipality of Clarington, Public Works Department Yards of Hampton and Orono held a retirement party at Nome's Restaurant for long-time worker Harley Elliott who has been with the Municipality since the mid-'70's. Supervisor Ron Robinson (on the right in the photo) presented presented Harley with a joke gift of a bladeless and chainless chain saw. This was a saw for Harley to listen to, not use! It seems that Harley had a tendency tendency to let treetops he was cutting with a chainsaw fall a little too close to his fellow workers. A few years ago, he also almost lost a leg after a tree he cut down managed to pinch his right leg between that and another tree tearing all the muscles away from the bone and mixing sawdust, oils, gas and tree bark into his huge wound. He was very determined not to lose his leg and to doctors' amazement still has it. You can see why they thought Harley would be better off to just listen to a saw! His wife Lea received a gorgeous bouquet of a dozen red roses. Harley also received a personal gift from Mayor Diane Harare and a generous donation to a holiday holiday Caribbean cruise in April from his fellow workers. Shortly after a delicious roast beef meal and opening his gifts, Lea became violently ill and had to be taken to Bowmanville Hospital. She was released Sunday after an acute attack of inflammation of the pancreas. Harley really enjoyed his party and thanks all involved in it! Complex dinner by Isabelle Châllice The monthly dinner was , held on Thursday, February 17, in the Complex: Hall, to a good attendance. Everyone en joy fed the delicious delicious roast beef dinner catered by the Fundraising Arena Board. The President welcomed all and a short business period period followed the dinner. Excellent entertainment was provided by James and Doreen Lowery. James on the saxophone or violin and Doreen on the piano kept our. toes tapping and it was enjoyed by all present.
