Allin's Orchard semi-final bound Allin's Orchard peewees are now gearing up for the semi-final round of the OMHA 'E' championships by virtue of their three-game sweep over Tam worth on the weekend. With last year's All- Ontario championship, still vividly imprinted on their memories, the boys were focused and weren't leaving Tam worth on Saturday without without the quarter finals firmly in hand. And that they did. Orono opëned with a short-handed goal at 10:52 of the first. Kyle Cox found the mark on a feed from Kyle Allin and Kevin Ladouceur. Cox scored Orono's second goal, this time from Adam Cull and Doug Garlick. Cox scored a natural hat-trick after taking an ali-oop pass from Brian Pisani and Chris Moffat at 6:27 of the second. With a three-goal lead, it looked as though Orono would run away with it however, however, Tamworth turned it on scoring two. The game' was penalty-ridden with Orono playing two men short on several several occasions. The fans were feeling uneasy-hoping for another goal so they could relax a little. little. Thanks to Brian Pisani, their wish was granted when he fired it home with Moffat and Evan Moore assisting. This goal proved to be the game winner even as Tamworth pushed one more by goalie Steven Trudeau in the third. Orono hung on to win 4-3 and sweep the series. Now, the Applemen will take on West Muskoka in game one of the semi-final series at the MacTier Arena on Friday, March 3 at 8 p.m. where they'll flip for home game advantage. Game two of this six-point series will be back in Orono on Sunday, March 5 at 6 p.m. The coaching staff of Brian Allin, Barney Bangay, Blain Moffat and Steve West are confident that their team will do their best. Eliminates Tamworth , Orono Lumber midgets move on to OMHA semi-finals Country Cafe plays with heart Oshawa came out to Orono for a rematch game. The first period nary a puck struck twine. However, early in the second, Orono put two points on the board. The first by Devon Robinson assisted by Jessie Rice up from Andrew Kirkbride. The second was by Daniel Reilly assisted by Scott Henderson up from Robinson. The score stayed that way till the end of the second when Oshawa slipped two by the Orono netminder within a minute. The third period both teams worked hard to break the tie and Oshawa was sue-. cessful with 1:09 left on the clock. Goaltending duties were shared by Jason Hoyne and Shane Winters. Friday night, Cannington made their way to Orono for more consolation round hockey. hockey. The teams had a fun game of hockey. Country Cafe put one point on the board compliments compliments of Tyler Lawrence with assists going to Matt Moffat up from Reilly, Final score was 3-1 Cannington. Sunday night, the Orono squad made their way up to Fenelpn Falls. The hosts scored in the first period but neither team scored again till the third when the scoring went back and forth until it was tied at three. With twelve seconds left in the game, Fenelon popped in the winning winning goal. The point earners this game were Cam Delorme and Mike Hicks, both unassisted. unassisted. Delorme scored again with Mike Whelan assisting. Final score was 4-3 Fenelon. Shane Winters played the next two games in net as Hoyne was out with the flu as was Kyle Balson. The Orono Lumber Midget Leafs have advanced to the semi-finals of the All Ontario Championship by virtûë of their dramatic overtime victory victory over Tamworth at Orono Arena last Friday night. In a hard-fought, closely matched series, remarkably devoid of the chippiness that typically develops, Orono started. tentatively, letting a convincing victory become a nail-biter in game 1; then dropping game two _ in Tamworth despite a two r goal performance by Jeff Thompson. The Leafs then sëttled down, taking à solid 3- 2 victory in Tamworth three nights later setting the stage for Friday night's heroics. Determined to set the tone early, Orono came out flying and after several big hits, most notably by Adam Tollett, They jumped out to a two-goal lead taking control of the game. Tamworth fought back strongly drawing within one early in the second, then were rewarded with the equalizer seven minutes later. The teams played a scoreless scoreless but exciting third period, with several good scoring chances. As seconds ticked down, the deadlock continued with another ^ long bus ride to Tamworth looming. However, However, the Leafs gained control of the puck deep in the Tamworth's zone when Bob Witheridge found Ryan Tresise out front who promptly promptly slapped it home with just 14 seconds left on the clock. Both teams deserve full credit for the tough, deter- miifed but fair play exhibited throughout this very closely matched series. Now the Leafs will face Chatsworth (near Owen Sound) in a six-point semifinal semifinal series. Game one will be played in Orono on Saturday, March 4 at 5:00 p.m. Game two in Chatsworth, will be played on Sunday, March 5th. also at 5:00 p.m. See you there! Good luck Leafs!
