A university for Durham Region, now or never? was the question raised by Durham College President, Gary Polonsky at Wednesday's Regional Council meeting. Polonsky asked that each of the Regional Councillors do something to see that a University in Durham becomes a reality -- "pass a motion collectively, write a letter," he suggested. "Over 90% of people in Durham Region want this to happen," stated Polonsky. Polonsky, coming off of what he claims was one of the best days, in his professional life, Tuesday, 22nd, when the Province announced the Super Build Fund. With private-sector private-sector partners the Province is investing nearly $1.4 billion in Ontario's post secondary institutions. institutions. Durham College will be receiving ' $28.75 million from the fund. With that influx of capital, the college will now be able to embark on a $48 million expansion. "Durham is the fastest growing .college in Ontario," stated Polonsky. The Durham College program will not be abandoned if Durham goes ahead with the University. "It will be a new kind of university, university, which builds on Durham College in a totally integrated way," Polonsky said. Classified Advertising $5.00 for 25 words Bowmanville location for water testing suspended As of February 28, Durham Region Health Department has suspended its well water sample drop off and pick-up service at the Durham Regional Police station station at Regional Rd. #57 and Hwy. #2 in Bowmanville until further notice. "We are currently investigating investigating a new location for this service," explained Tony Wong, Manager, Environmental Health. "We are anxious to re-establish this service for residents in the Bowmanville area and will advise the community as soon as a new location is found." Residents can drop off water samples at the Health Department's Whitby Office, 1615 Dundas St. E., in the Whitby Mall, 2nd floor until a new location is announced. The Health Department has a number of sites throughout Durham Region where residents can drop off samples of well water for testing.
