The little Village of Orono will send not one--but two of its five' rep teams to the OMHA's All-Ontario 'D' championships. The dream became a reality reality this past weekend when both the Orono Lumber midgets and Allin's Orchard peewees who were tied at one game apiece in their best-of- five games series, defeated the Chatsworth Flames and West Muskoka respectively--two games straight in a commanding, commanding, decisive manner. There was no doubt left in anyone's mind who the series' best teams were. Now, the two clubs are preparing for the last leg of their journey in a quest for minor hockey's holy grail-- the All-Ontario championship title. The Orono Lumber midgets face the Thedford Rocks in a best-of-seven games series beginning this weekend. The first two games will be in Thedford Saturday, March 18 at 8:30 p.m. and Sunday, March 19 at 6:30 p.m. The Leafs will be back in Orono for games three and four on Saturday, March 25 at 5 p.m. and Sunday, March 26 at 6 p.m. If necessary, the teams will flip for home game advantage after game four. Allin's Orchard peewees, defenders of last year's Ontario championship title will square off against Stephen Twp. in a five-game series which gets under way this weekend. The peewee Leafs will be at home for games one and two being held Saturday, March 18 at 3 p.m. and Sunday, March, 19 at 2 p.m. Games three and four in Stephen Twp. will be Friday, March 24 at 8 p.m. and Saturday, March 25 at 3 p.m. If necessary, the teams will flip for the fifth and final home game which will be held Sunday, March 26 either in Orono or Stephen Twp. There you have it folks. Orono Arena will be the place to be for the next two weekends weekends and we're calling on all village residents to come out and cheer the hometown boys on to a double All-Ontario championship. Who knows--we could add a few more pages to Orono's already remarkable hockey history. Go Leafs go! Eliminate West Muskoka in semi's... Peewees to defend provincial title! With the series tied at one game apiece, Allin's Orchard pdewees eliminated West Muskoka in the semi-final round of playoffs on the weekend, weekend, advancing to the OMHA All-Ontario Peewee 'D' championships against Stephen Twp. Game three against West Muskoka in Orono last Friday ended in a 5-3 victory for the Leafs. Orono's Doug Garlick added an empty-netter in a last ditch effort by West Muskoka to tie the game. Final score Orono 5, West Muskoka 3 . Game four saw Allin's Orchard march confidently into MacTier with a game in hand. However, things did not go well when the Leafs found themselves down two goals at 11:25 of the first period. Chris Moffat got the Leafs back on track scoring at the 6:56 mark. Then, Steve Hicks tied it up at 5:20 from Pisani and Moffat. West Muskoka regained a 3-2 lead by, the end of the first.
