In conjunction with the official opening of the new office complex at Darlington, OPG President Ron Osborne presented Darlington Nuclear with a flag and trophy marking marking the corporation winning the 1999 Energy Efficiency Award for Industry. The first-time award recognized recognized the efforts made by OPG to reduce internal energy energy use. From 1994 to 1998, OPG realized annual savings of 1,750 gigawatt/hours. That's enough to supply a city about the size of Oshawa for a year. Savings at Darlington atone, for that time period totalled 78,7000 megawatt/hours, equal to the amount of electrical energy consumed by a town the size of Newcastle in just under half a year. The new $30 million office and learning centre complex which was officially opened Monday, houses the 700 employees of the Engineering and Services section and a Learning Centre.
