Coach Deboo was given a huge team effort from his squad. Andrew Fudge was given the nod to start between the pipes and was strong when called upon. Blain Cox opened the scoring scoring on a feed from Adam Wood and Josh Dobson. Wood scored the next goal assisted by Cox and Brien Konopka. Doug Deboo made it 3-0 with Kenny Jackson and Matt Smitt picking tip the assists. Jonathan Koerssen went end- to-end making it 4-0 with Kevin Bourke getting the helper. Wood rounded out the scoring scoring with Justin Westerink and Sarah Donnelly earning assists giving Fibergrate a 5-1 victory. . 'Orono's Robyn Henderson, Matt Fuller and Mad Dog Beenen also played a strong game contributing to the win. Adam Wood, pictured right, was declared MVP at the Port Perry tournament with seven points. Stuff's ties Bragg's but falls short of championship Stutf s Pharmacy pulled out all the stops in their championship championship game against Bragg's having lost game one to them last week. There was plenty of end-to- end action in the" first period but it remained scoreless. Both netminders were outstanding. However, Bragg's got on the scoreboard first only to be answered within minutes by Stutt's Nicholas - Kuijpers with ' Alex Shkuratoff assisting. Tied at one entering the third, Josh McGill fired one home from Kuijpers and Nicholas Hutchinson. Bragg's went to work and evened the score, but Orono wouldn't sit back. Noel Snow picked up the slack scoring on a solo effort giving Orono a 3-2 lead. With two minutes on the clock, Bragg's pulled their goalie for an extra attacker but Stutt's held them off forcing a third game. Sunday.'s game saw both teams raring to go with Orono fans chanting "ORONO" as Stutt's came to the ice. Bragg's scored first but Josh McGill responded for Stutt's tying it up with Alex Shkuratoff and Tyler El son assisting. Bragg's pulled ahead in the second however, . Kevin Griffen tied it for Orono in the third. Flarley McColl and Matt Mercer assisted on the goal. With the game ending in a 2- all tie, the winner was determined determined by whoever had the most points in playoffs. Bragg's had one more than Stuff's thus was declared winner winner of the 'A' Championship series. Although disappointed, the Stutt's gang knew they had given it their all and tried their best. Congratulations from the parents of the Stutt's Pharmacy team for playing such an exciting season of hockey. They enjoyed every minute of it. Great fini After winning the B' championship in their own tournament during March Break, the Orono novice rep team finished the season as 'B' finalists in the Bowmanville Tournament on April 8, The weather made it feel like hockey season as Orono faced Clarington in the first game. The second game was somewhat improved as both teams were pretty evenly matched. On Saturday, .April 1st, Orôno's Apple Blossom Shop faced Checkers Variety -in Bowmanville for game three in round robin playoffs. Orono started off with a bang. Within seconds of opening opening faceoff, a great team effort culminated" in a goal by Heather Maitland with spectacular spectacular passes from Emma Lunn and Daniel Hodgson. Hodgson soon followed with ' Orono's ■ second goal assisted by Maitland, Maitland scored her second of the game from Lunn and Hodgson, Paul Bridger finished off' the scoring scoring op a beautiful pass from Lucas Leech. Final score 4-1 for Orono. , • Orono Apple Blossoms continue to topple their opponents. opponents. This time it was Liberty Dental who fell 5-2 to' Apple Blossom gang. Liberty started "the scoring but Orono was hot on their trail with a magnificent shot by Daniel Hodgson ,'on a pass from Paul Bridger. The fans were on the edge of their seats when Liberty got their second goal. However, Orono soon tied it with some fine maneuvering maneuvering by Bridger unassisted. Lucas Leech fired one home from Jonathan Picco and Tyler Skelton making it 3-2. Greg Howe was not to be hassled hassled with when he dropped, one in unassisted. Orono wrapped it up when Tyler Skelton dropped in an awesome 'goal aided by Picco and Bridger. Goalie Alex Hart continued . to dazzle pveryone with his sptiedy glove and deft moves. Forwards Joel McDonald, Chris Gallant, Brock McGill, and Dustin Armstrong played a great game as did Cory Veloce, Ben McKelvie and Josh Flynn on defense. Orono Apple Bldssoms are now in first place in their division division by virtue of their 4 and 0 record in the CRHI. round robin playoff series. TRT Sand & Gravel win 'B'championship The TRT Sand & Gravel novices are the'B' champs in league play. The team played a strong series with Ayren Links. The series actually ended in a tie, but the gravel pit gang were declared the winners based on a one goal advantage. On April 4, Ayren Links were 4-3 winners. Garrett Klompmaker scored a hat- trick with Tyler Armstrong garnering two assists, and Jordan McDonnell, Steve Donadel, Brian Knapp and Jon DeVries each contributing one. On April 6th, Orono battled back to tie the golfers 2-2. Daniel VanderWeer opened the scoring assisted by Brandon Miller. Tyler Armstrong scored the tying goal from Klompmaker and Ryan Wood. Gardner Cole, Scott Duquette, Gary Konopka, Kevin Jackson, Brian Dillon and Aaron West played some exciting hockey. 1 Alex Campney provided the team with great goaltending.
