Hold on for a whistle! Senior grades of Kirby, Newtonville and Orono Public schools faced each other at Orono Arena last week Thursday in a friendly broom-ball tournament. When the fog had settled, Newtonville's girls team won, the Kirby boy's team won. Apple Blossoms make bid for 'A' champ Orono's atoms, sponsored by the Apple Blossom Shop, went to battle against Kamstra Landscaping, in what was the fifth and final game of the round robin series. Ending in a 4-3 victoiy for Orono, the win put them into the playoffs 'A' championship playoffs. Johnathon Picco with two, Daniel Hodgson and Lucas Leech all scored for the Blossom Shop. Assists were made by Greg Howe, Lucas Leech, Paul Bridger, Josh . Flynn and Tyler Skelton. A big thanks to goalie Alex Hart from all his team mates, for getting them through another one. Apple Blossom Shop hit the ice early Saturday morning morning in Orono, for their first playoff match against Liberty Dental. Though Liberty Dental took a commanding two-goal lead in the first period, Orono's Brock McGill responded with a terrific goal to close the gap with Dustin Armstrong and Chris Gallant both assisting on the play. During second period action the score remained unchanged. Alex Hart, once again in net for the Apple Blossoms, did an outstanding job of squashing all scoring attempts. In the third period, Orono came alive once more as Armstrong scored unassisted, while his team was short- handed. Way to dig, Dustin! Orono's Greg Howe waited until the last 30 seconds of the game to make his move for the net and changed the score to 3^2. Liberty Dental retaliated retaliated by scoring the tying goal with just three seconds left on the clock. In their second playoff game, Sunday night in Bow mam il le. Orono didn't fare quite so well. It sure wasn't wasn't from lack of trying though. Greg Howe scored their one and only goal in a 5-1 loss to Liberty Dental. Lakeridge Health gets rave reviews Lakeridge Health recently completed a rigorous evaluation evaluation of patient care processes to rave reviews. A team of four surveyors from the Canadian Council on Health Services Accreditation (CCHSAj interviewed interviewed staff, patients and clients of Lakeridge Health over a five-day period last week. "Their comments were very positive," said Brian Lemon, CEO. "Our staff were praised for their enthusiasm, commitment, commitment, expertise and energy. Surveyors told us that it was evident that our healthcare team are working together to plan and give the best care to our clients and patients." "We were also delighted to hear that patients and clients who were interviewed by the surveyors were consistently complimentary about the care and service they receive." The CCHSA is a non-profit, non-profit, non-government organization organization that helps health service organizations across Canada examine and improve the quality of the care and services services they provide. Participation, in the accreditation accreditation process is voluntary and the program is based on national standards. "Lajceridge executives and staff were de briefed by the four surveyors on Friday, April 7th. They noted both areas of excellence and areas needing improvement;" The final report from the Canadian Council on Health Services Accreditation is expected in early summer. Orono crew was knocked out of 'A' championship contention contention April 12th by Liberty Dental arid now finds themselves themselves matched up with Hutton Transport in the 'B' round. This series is currently tied at one win apiece. Hutton took game one in a rough, tough battle. Doug Defboo mounted the only offence on a slap shot that was too, hot to handle by Hutton's goaltender. Andrew Fudge, Orbno's netminder faced many tough shots himself i'n a losing bid. Fibergrate's game on Sunday was a different stoiy with a much better ending. Orono managed to turn it around with a convincing 4-2 win. It took the locals till the third period to finally solve. Hutton's goaltender. Adam Wood scored the first assisted by Josh Dobson and Justin Westerink. Jonathan Koerssen gave Orono the lead with Deboo and Fudge garnering assists. Matt Smitt scored the third goal with playmakers, Deboo and Fudge again picking picking up assists. Adam Wood rounded out thé scoring with a solo blast. Mike Hisson played a great game in net with 100% team effort in front of him. Fibergrate's next game will decide the series' jvinner.
