Frisbee Championships will be hosted by Bowmanville High School on May 24th & 25th. Sixteen teams from around the province will take part in one of the newest and most spirited spirited sports around. Throughout the two-day tournament tournament each team will play a , minimum of 5 games at both Bowmanville High School and Memorial Park playing fields. Although Ultimate Frisbee, often referred to as "Ultimate," is quite popular in many countries around the world, it has only recently taken Ontario high schools by storm. OFSAA (Ontario Federation of Secondary Athletic Associations) now recognizes Ultimate as an Invitational sport and fully sanctions the game at the high school level. Ultimate is a fast-paced, high-energy sport that combines combines physical fitness, teamwork, teamwork, and sportsmanship. It is co-ed, non-contact sport that fields 7 players per team (3 of one gender, 4 of the other). The object of the game is to pass the "disc" to teammates teammates while trying to move up the field and pass into the endzone for a single point. One of the reasons why Ultimate has become so attractive at the high school level is that it is played by all ages, at all skill levels, and by both sexes. The only equipment equipment needed is an open field and a disc. Each team has both a male and female captain captain who work out disputed calls on .the field with other captains. This philosophy of sportsmanship, known as "The Spirit of the Game" is integral to the sport of Ultimate. Ultimate has traditionally relied upon this philosophy to describe the respect that every player has for the rules of the game and for their fellow fellow players.
