' Our Mother Jean Allin brought in this poem written by Vance Allin's Aunt, Mrs. Edith Moffat in 1905. In Memory of Mrs. Thos. Griffin who died November 12th, 1905, aged 55 years. In memory of our dear mother, The following lines were penned; Death has taken away from us Our first, our truest friend We know her spirit is happy Where no shadows cloud the brow, But Oh! we are sad and lonely, For we have no mother now. She was wasted, worn and weary, So tired she loriged for rest; Yet she bore her troubles meekly Knowing what God does, is best; Now her toilsome journey's ended: he has reached that happy shore, Where sin can never enter And death is felt no more. Her life was not all sunshine. sunshine. Of troubles she had her share; Bereavements one after another That were so hard to bear; Yet her faith looked up thro the shadows When her heart felt like to break And she trusted God's precious precious promise, I will never leave thee nor forsake. Her faithful love never lessened . Nor her friendship grow weary or cold Her nature was ever generous generous Sympathizing with young and old; A heart filled with tender compassion Was our beloved mother's, She seemed to lose sight of her own grief In trying to comfort others. others. Charitable to all in word and deed She hath not lived in vain, The influence of her patient life Eternity will explain. Such faithful untiring devotion Shall meet with the Master's reward, The well done good and faithful servant Shall enter the joy of the Lord. We know there's a home for the weary ' Where the burdened spirit spirit may rest For those who have wept in sorrow By sickness and grief oppressed; A home that is free from suffering Our Saviour has gone to prepare Where loved ones again are united We fed our dear mother is there. We know in the Lord's good pleasure His time and ways are not ours In love he takes our dearest dearest treasures And plucks from earth its sweetest flowers So we'll try to follow her teachings That when life's j oumey is o'er. We may meet again our loved one Where parting shall be no more. Written by her niece, ■'Mrs. Jno. Moffatt. Mike Sullivan, spokesperson spokesperson for the Visual Arts Centre (VAC), quoted from a letter written to Mayor Garnet Rickard in 1984, where the VAC requested the Bowmanville Baseball Association, vacate the space they use for storage purposes in the Cream of Barley Mill. Sullivan read from several other items of correspondence written over the years, requesting this space be vacated vacated by the Baseball Association, Membership in the VAC has increased over the years, said Sullivan, and activities at the Mill have been limited because of the shortage of space. "The VAC is overcrowded, overcrowded, and we're forced to turn away students," Sullivan stated. "Imagine, if we needed needed that space 14 years ago, how much it is needed today?" Mayor Ham re assured Sullivan there would be a resolution resolution to the problem this time, because the municipality has acquired property, and additional buildings over the years, where the baseball equipment could be stored.
