Next euchre party. Wed., May 17 at 8 p.m. by Tim Rypstra ramtcm This week, my step dad, Bert, and 1 made a trip to my secret trout spot. We went late Saturday afternoon - early evening. We both began fishing using floats with small garden worms. I left a good pool for Bert, to fish in. The pool had a log jam with a water fall and tree just down from the falls. _ I continued down stream to a place..where the rapids met a slow pool due to a beaver dam. I took a couple of casts into the slick water. ■ When my fishing line knotted and very quickly came up looking like a birds nest, I had to cut the line. I decided not to take a •chance of finding another birds nest in my line, so I switched to a size two panther ' martin. The small spinner was red with yellow dots. We continued down stream fishing the deep pools and ripples. When we came to a spot where the rapids cut underneath a tree, 1 took a cast to the tree and on the first cast the fish hit my lure very hard. I hooked it and fought it for awhile. It took me some time to land the fish because I was using my ultra light with four pound test. When 1 finally landed the fish, it was a beauty brown trout, about 12 inches long. The fish was released, to be caught again. That was the only fish we caught that day. This month's recipe is: Steamed Fillets 2 pounds fillets 1 1/2 teaspoon salt parsley Salt fish on both sides. Place in a greased steamer pan and cook over boiling water for 10-12 minutes until fish flakes easily with a fork. Remove carefully to a hot platter and serve with a rich sauce like 'Creamy Mustard Sauce'. ' Garnish with parsley. Serves up to 6 people. Creamy Mustard Sauce 1 cup sour cream 1 1, tablespoon prepared mustard mustard 1 tablespoon minced onion 1/4 teaspoon salt 1/8 teaspoon pepper 1 tablespoon chopped green onions In a pot combine sour cream, mustard, onion, salt and pepper. Cook slowly, stirring constantly until heated. heated. Remove from heat. Sprinkle with onion. Serve immediately. There are only two fishing seasons closed at this time of year. Mu skie opens on June 3, and largemouth and small- mouth bass season opens on June 24. If any of these fish are caught before their opening opening date, they must be released.
