Juvenile girls volleyball Ganaraska Wolves find When the Canadian national national volleyball championships were over, the Ganaraska Wolves juvenile girl's volley- ball team found themselves on the podium accepting silver medals. Winnipeg, Manitoba hosted hosted the 24-team competition last May 12, 13 & 14. Teams from Saskatchewan, Alberta, British Columbia, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Quebec, Newfoundland and Ontario were all competing for top honours which eventually eventually went to the Hamilton Seekers--the team the Wolves defeated in the provincial championship finals held earlier earlier in April. The Wolves defeated Saskatchewan #1 in the quarter quarter finals then Alberta #1 in the semi's before advancing to the finals against Hamilton falling.3 games to 2. Melonie All in of Orono, in a telephone interview said "the whole weekend was amazing" and "they weren't used to playing so many high caliber teams." Melonie said she was a little nervous and that the competition was a huge learning experience. The Wolves also had an opportunity to see the national women's volleyball team play the University of Manitoba's men's team on the Thursday preceding their tournament. Of special note, Sara Hartmann of Orono was one of six players in the top four teams who was named to the allstar team. Stacey Gordon of Oshawa, also of the Ganaraska Wolves was named tournament MVP. Three Orono area girls participated participated in the national championships championships as members of the Ganaraska Wolves. They were, Tina, Talsma, Sara Hartmann and Melonie Allin. r.
