Hwy 115 Truck & Auto girls put two in win column Orono's girls of summer, the Hwy 115 Truck & Auto bantam/midgets of the HOST Girl's Softball Lèague are free wheeling these days with two wins to their credit early on in the seasoti. The first in exhibition play, was an impressive 20-5 victory victory over Bowmanville Kinsmen Kinsmen two weeks ago. Offensively, Jennifer Duquette, Marley Gimblett, Lindsay Carter and Katie Poole scored three times each while Michelle DeVries and Brenda Burt crossed the plate twice. Defensively, Katie O'Neill hurled four strong innings holding the opposition to one ran. Sarah Carter came out of the pen in relief to close it out for the truckers. Tricia Rylance was outstanding behind the plate while Nicole Millson quarterbacked the infield from her shortstop position contributing several assists and outs. In her rookie season, Stacey Knight hit the ball hard doing a fine job in the outfield. outfield. After their May 23rd home opener was rained out, the Truck and Auto crew squared off against Tak Masters on the road in what played out as a 13-10 cliff-hanger, Orono jumped to a 4-0 lead in the first on a walk by Duquette, doubles by Ashley Bickell and Burt and singles by O'Neill and Rylance. Orono was shut out in the second second but Burt and Gimblett both came home on a fielder's choice by Lindsay Carter and Ashley Bickell in the third with the score tied at six. Bickell with six K's in the first three -, innings, was relieved by Sarah Carter and Michelle who combined to hold Tak-Master to one, run over the next three frames. Orono bats were hot pushing pushing four then three runs across in the fourth and fifth innings. Michelle Henderson scored twice and single runs went to Michelle DeVries, Stacey Knight, Katie O'Neill, Ashley and Katie Poole, Tak-Master shut out Orono in the final two innings and only cracked the tracker's defense enough for three runs as the Track and Auto squad emerged from the contest 13- 10 victors. While skating / out of the Orono Figure Skating Club, the adult synchronized skating team competes with twenty skaters and four alternates as a Festival team. The Ice Effects have enjoyed a very successful 1999/2000 season and are very proud of their efforts. The team captured top honours in two competitions winning gold at the Niagara Invitational Synchronized .Skating Competition in St. Catharines and it the All-Ontario Synchronized Skating Festival Competition in Woodstock. They placed fourth out of 21 adult, teams at the Bemic Deveau Synchronized Skating Competition in Chatham. As well, the team was invited to perform in the Newcastle Figure Skating Club's carnival and the Orono Figure Skating Club's carnival . • The Ice Effects are coached by Nancy Meredith.
