Proceeds to the Orono Arena Fundraising. PROGRESSIVE EUCHRE TOURNAMENT A progressive euchre tournament is being held August 19, 7:00 p.m., Orono Arena, $10.00 per person. All proceeds go to the Orono Arena Building Fund. ORONO HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY Summer Flower & Vegetable Show, August 17,7:30 p.m., Orono United Church, Guest Speaker: Bryon Samis, Topic: "Growing Dahlias". All welcome. This week the combined eight municipalities of the Durham Region play host to the Ontario Summer Games. Over the next four days, nearly 3,200 athletes, coaches and managers will be participating participating in 21 different events throughout the Region. The Games start with official official opening ceremonies Thursday morning at the Civic Auditorium in Oshawa. Competitions will take place from August 10 to 13, ending with medal presentations on Sunday afternoon, again at the Civic Auditorium Clarington will be hosting mens soccer at the Darlington Hydro Fields and mens baseball baseball at Soper Creek Park in Bowmanville, and Harvey Jackson Park in Kendal. This is the first time in the Games 27 year histoiy that a regional municipality will be playing host. The committee has been working for nearly three years on this project, which is relying on approximately approximately 1200 community volunteers volunteers for their support. The Ontario Games, held in partnership with the Ministry of Citizenship, Culture and Recreation are played annually, alteniating between summer and winter games'. The Games are the initial stage in'the identification identification of potential elite athletes. For the first, time in Canada, this year's Summer Games will include some of Ontario's premier athletes with disabilities competing in in track & field and golf. Mens baseball games begin on Thursday, with games simultaneously running running at 9:00 a.m., 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. at Soper'Creek Park in Bowmanville, and Harvey Jackson Park in Kendal. Friday and Saturday games will be played at both . parks beginning at 9:00 a.m., 11:00 a.m., 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. The 3:00 p.m. games on ' Saturday .will be the semifinal semifinal match-ups. Bronze medal games will begin at 9:00 a.m. on Sunday, and the gold medal game will begin at 12:00 noon on (continued page 2)
