The response to our series of three Walking Tours has been so great we have decided decided to add a fourth. This one will be held on Thursday. August 31st at 7 p.m. It will be a different route, but will still cover residential and business sections. The original remaining tours are on Thursday, August 17th - 1 p.m. and Thursday, August 24th - 10 a.m. The tour will take about 11/2 hours. Terry Fox, 1980 This year the annual Terry Fox Run marks its 20th Anniversary. This is a remarkable milestone for a charity event. It also commemorates commemorates the 20th Anniversary of Terry's own Marathon of Hope. An amazing amazing 20 years have passed since Teny began his personal odyssey to make a difference in the lives of all cancer patients. Since then, participants participants have walked, run, hiked and bladed the 10 kilometer "fun run" and raised close to a quarter billion dollars for cancer cancer research. The theme for this year's Terry Fox Run campaign .is "Twenty Years Running." Today, the Annual Terry Fox Run is the largest single day fundraising event for cancer research in the world. More than 1.2 million people participate participate in 52 countries around the world including such places as Australia, Columbia, Kenya, and Saudi Arabia including 1,100 Run sites in Canada. Last year in Clarington, the Terry Fox Run brought out close to 350 people who through community and corporate corporate pledges raised about $25,000. This year's Terry Fox Run on September 17th will be an exciting and special occasion for the Bowmanville Run Site. Walter Gibson, Terry Fox Bowmanville Run Site Organizer has put out a challenge to the Clarington Community. He expects to have over 600 participants from across Clarington. "We are more interested in seeing awareness and participation than in setting goals for pledges." says Mr. Gibson. Dinner marks 20 years A dinner will be held at the Clarington Beech Centre Tuesday, September 5 to help celebrate the 20th Anniversary of the Terry, Fox Run and also to commemorate commemorate the Î0 Anniversary of Terry's ■ own Marathon of Hope. Terry's younger brother, brother, Darrell Fox will be the guest speaker. Social hour will begin at 6:00 PM with dinner at 7:00 PM.
