Erhail: info@stro- man.com. Les was handy, could fix or build anything and Bill was a great "wheeler dealer" always buying and selling cows, horses and gravel. Les had the job of shoeing Bill's trotters. Bill always said he couldn't pay him right now, but as soon as the hens started laying again he would bring him in a dozen eggs.. Les had a great "shop" across from the race track and Bill and the other horsemen, would drop in for a cup of coffee most mornings. Some of them would complain that the Orono track was short of being a full mile and not good for racing. Les would reply that it seemed plenty long enough for the horses he had seen racing on it. One morning. Les, with a mouthful of shoe nails, was shoeing a horse and telling jokes. ' After he told his obligatory obligatory joke that morning, Bill announced that he had just purchased a new car. It was a Plymouth Reliant K-Car. Les soon started kidding Bill about the car. "You bought a K-Car? What would ever possess you . to, buy one of those?". Bill just shrugged his shoulders and mentioned the good price he got on it. "Did you get one with the automatic transmission this time?" Les asked. Bill replied that he had in fact bought one with the automatic but it didn't didn't seem to go as far on a gallon gallon of gas as the standard. It just had an AM radio and he didn't go for the wheel discs or the white wall tires. "What colour did you gel?" Les asked. "Light blue." Bill replied. Again, Les tore into Bill about the colour. "Why on earth would you buy a light blue car? Fve seen those light blue K-cars and they have to be the ugliest shade of blue I haye ever seen!" Finally, Bill left, probably wondering what he did to deserve all those comments about his new car. A few days later Bill returned to Les' shop for his morning coffee and chat. There it was parked in the driveway, another blue K-Car, This one was identical to the K-Car that Bill had just purchased purchased except it was a little nicer model. It had whitewall tires, wheel discs and the AM-FM radio. It wasn't long before Les spilled the beans. A few days before Bill showed up with his new K- Car, Les had ordered one himself, himself, It was the same car, same light blue colour. He just couldn't believe it when Bill pulled in with the identical identical new car. The two of them laughed about this story many times. Les Reid was always partial partial to the "Tory Blue" cars. Once, his son, Bert, dropped by to show his father his new bright red Firebird. "Park that Liberal. car out back!" Les half-joked. Many years later Les' blue K-Car was handed down to his grandsons, Daryl and Dustin. Our family saw the blue K-Car a lot since Daryl was (and still is) dating our daughter, Joanna. Later, Daryl got a full time job and purchased a white Pontiac Bonneville. I'm sure his grandfather would have said, "At least it isn't red." Call me to Buy or sell...
