OBITUARY Dorothy Winnifred BAILEY Dorothy Winnifred Bailey passed away peacefully at Victoria Manor In Lindsay on Friday, June 30, 2000. Bom in Clarke Township on July 12, 1912, Dorothy was the daughter of the late Heber and Evelyn (Rickaby) Souch. She received her education education at Clarke Union School and Orono Continuation School. For a number of years she remained on the farm with her parents, to assist her mother who was unwell. In 1938, "she married Harry Bailey. They were loving loving parents to two children, Wayne and Mary Lunn. Harry passed away suddenly on August 28, 1949. Dorothy lived most of her life in and around Orono. She took great Interest in village village affairs, especially during the many years she worked In the "Orono Times" Office. As a member of Orono United Church, she contributed contributed actively of her time and talents, especially enjoying enjoying the fellowship of the Orono United Church Women. Dorothy was always a conscientious worker whose cooking and knitting skills were much appreciated. appreciated. A devoted wife, mother and grandmother, Dorothy took much pleasure in her family, her friends and neighbours. neighbours. Left to mourn her passing are her sister Eileen Billings, son Wayne Bailey and his wife Carol, daughter Mary Lynn and her husband Carl Kimmett, grandchildren Shawn Bailey (Paula), Tim Bailey (Claire), Warren Kimmett (April), Joel Kimmett (Eileen), Rebecca Kimmett (D.J.) and great granddaughter Nicole Dorothy Bailey. Also survived by sister-in-law Georgina Beaton. The Funeral Service was held in Orono United Church on July 4, 20Ô0. Interment was in Orono Cemetery. Artist/Illustrator Derek Anderson held an exhibition of his work at the home of his parents, Boyce and Charlotte Anderson, on Main St. North, Orono, on Saturday. Anderson begins each of his pieces, which are usually heritage scenes, by sketching in pencil, then filling in the outline with ink dots. Anderson is self taught in this technique, which is called pointillism. "I started out painting with oil and water colour, but I switched to pen and ink because it is more respective of detail," say Anderson. Joe Hubbard, currently Superintendent of Schools for the Municipality qf Clarington, has been appointed the new Superintendent of Administrative Services on a five-year term, which is the norm for superintendents' positions. He assumed the position October 1. Hubbard, who was first named Superintendent of Schools in August 1999, was Principal of Bowmanville High School and has served as a principal or vice-principal in several other schools. He holds Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Education and Master of Education degrees. "The Board also thanks Chuck Kennedy, currently Co-ordinator of Administrative Services, for doing a superlative Job in handling the Administrative Services portfolio on a part- time basis since health problems problems took Bryan away from work," she adds. "He has handled many major issues well." Kennedy, a retired superintendent superintendent from the former Northumberland-Clarington Board of Education, has served as interim Co-ordina- tor of Administrative Services on a three-days-per-week basis. He will fill Hubbard's current Superintendent of Schools position temporari- > ly, until a new Superintendent of Schools is hired. The position will be open to internal and external applicants.
