Clarington women will be joining a significant local, national and international movement, when they march in the World March of Women, 2000 on Parliament Hill on October 15th. FOCUS, a local women's issues group, has been preparing for this march since March 8, 2000 - International Women's Day. The group put out boxes at a number of Clarington locations locations like libraries, the Food Bank, the woman's shelter and some churches, asking- people to write down their own experiences of violence and poverty, "We want people people in Clajrington to know this is a Clarington issue, its not just out 'there in big cities," stated FOCUS spokesperson Sylvia Vanhaverbeke., When the Clarington women arrive at Parliament Hill in Ottawa, they will join in solidarity with women's groups from across Canada. Canadian March organizers organizers have prepared 13 articles to be presented to the federal government, asking why it hasn't addressed the issues as previously promised. The group is looking for movement towards the implementation and injection of promised government support support for such programmes as a child-care fund, funding for women and children's shelters, shelters, and rape crisis centers, and support for immigrant ■ women, especially for refugees. FOCUS has invited Shepherd to join them on the Hill on the 15th, that he might show solidarity with Clarington and Canadian women. A delegation from the Canadian Woman's March Committee will be delivering a post card to Kofi Annan, Secretary-General of the United Nations in New York on October 17. The post card, signed by Canadian women, will ask the UN: What they are doing for woman's issues around the world?
