'J*?' 4 Orono ' October 11 , 2000 y Allin's Orchard Bantam Leafs on Track Another season has begun for the Allin's Orchard Bantam Leafs and they're off to a good start with a 2-0 record. This year's team consists of Kevin Martin in net, forwards forwards Curt Robinson, Kyle Cox, Matt Barnes, Justin Syzmczak, Tanner Millson, Andrew Robinson, Josh Westerink, Kyle Allin and Paul Richter. Back on defence are Chris Moffat, Brian Pisani, Jesse Price, Kienan Williams and Peter Heerschop. Brian Allin, Dale Millson, Blain Moffat and Steve West are handling the coaching. Once again the team is pleased to have All in's Orchard, Newcastle, as their sponsor and will try to go ajl the way this year to bring home another Championship to Orono. The season began on the road in Little Britain on Monday, Oct.2, where they took on Mariposa. Orono's scorers were hot as they skated skated to a decisive 7-1 victory. Goals were scored by Matt Barnes (2), Josh Westerink, Curt Robinson (3), Justin Szymczak, Paul Richter and Tanner Millson. Assists went to Robinson (2), Richter, Allin, Pisani, Westerink (2), Williams and Cox. Goalie Martin had a shut out going until 8.8 seconds remaining in the game. It was exciting to see the team come together so well this early in the season. Full of turkey dinner,'they hit the ice on Sunday, Oct. 9, to take on an ever-powerful team from Minden. Minden was leading at the end of the first period but Orono was able to tie the game at 13:21 of the, second with Curt Robinson, assisted by Allin and Cox, scoring.. Things broke loose in the third with Orono putting 3 more goals on the board. Matt Barnes scored from Millson and Heerschop and Robinson and Heerschop each. scored unassisted. unassisted. ST PAYS TO ADVERTISE 983-5301 YOUR LOCAL SPORTS NEWS for Orono's Peewee Rep Tern MANVERS WINS BY ONE GOAL The Orono Peewee Rep team, sponsored by Newcastle Funeral Home, began their season with an exhibition game against Manvers. The Manvers squad took the lead in the first period with two goals, but Orono began the second period with a goal of their own, scored by Dave Landman and ' assisted by Steve Hicks and Brandon Gauthier. Manvers squeaked one more goal in and Orono retaliated retaliated again, Brandon Gauthier scoring assisted by Steve Hicks and Dave Landman to wrap up the second period. Both teams began the third period with lots of energy Jo spare. No goals were scored by either team until the last five minutes of the game . Manvers popped one in the Orono net and Steve Hicks responded by blasting the puck by their goalie on a break-away. Again, Manvers scored. This time Dave Landman responded for the Orono Rep Team and deked their goalie to score on a break-away of his own At this point, there were only five seconds left in the game and the Orono team suffered suffered a 5 to 4 loss. Peewee Reps Rattle Haliburton ORONO LOSES 7 TO 5 On October 6th, the Orono Pewee Rep Team travelled to Haliburton for their first league game of the season. Haliburton pretty much undressed us in the first period by scoring 5 goals in the first period, Orono 'zip'. • Orono's determination persevered in the second period and although we didn't score, Haliburton. only managed to slip one goal by us. It was a brand new Orono Rep Team that stepped ontq the ice in the 3rd period. Great passing, great hitting and even better better goal scoring prevailed and with only 9 minutes left in the game Orono- scored 5 times! Although we finished the game with a 7 - 5 loss, we certainly maintained our pride and I believe, 'rattled a few' cages in Haliburton. Scoring for Orono were Mark Spiers, Steve Burt (2), Doug Garlick, Ryan Knox, with assists from Evan Moore (2), Ryan Knox, Daniel Reilly, Doug Deboo, Steve Burt (2), Brandon Gauthier and Doug Garlick. The -team came from behind defeating Woodville 4 to 2. The first opened up at full speed with a couple of sfick scoring chances by Andrew Kirkbride. The Woodmen responded with two good * chances on an early power- play, but Cafe goalie Byron Lott saved both. At 6:39, centre centre Devin Robinson weaved through the Woodville defense, blasted a shot but hit the pads. The Cafe kids ended up short-handed again at 4:27 for putting out three forwards and three defense. Orono surprised Woodville when Jesse Rice scored short- handed on a low smoker through the pads as the penalty penalty ended. Devin Robinson, flying all period, ended the first with a rockin' body check at centre ice. Netminder Lot slammed the door on a wicked shot from the slot to open the second. But the Woodsters came back to take the lead with two quick goals at 5:04 (on a 2 on 1) and at 4:48 (a bouncer). The Country Cafe comeback kids kept clicking and Matt Dobson drew the team even scoring on a rebound off aTyler Lawrence's shot. Both defensemen Michael Whelan and Kyle Balsôn broke up 2 on l's mi-period and seconds later Devin Robinson drove around three defenders and put Orono ahead on a knee high shot, glove side. Orono popped in the insurance goal with only one second left in the period - defenceman Jevon Staples snapped a pass up to winger Rob Blaker at the blue line, Blaker fed a perfect pass from the left wing cross-ice to a wide open Matt Moffatt who landed a high shot glove side. The third slipped by scoreless with Cafe goalie Lott making two awesome saves on a wraparound and on a blast from two meters out. Orono outshot Woodville 16 - 13 outchanced them 11 to 8. D.S.G.
