The team played a good game but were worn down in the second period. Scott Duquette got the start between the pipes and made some nice saves. Armstrong IGA Peewees Tie Akers Auto Glass The Orono Atom reps pushed their winning streak to four, snatching a nail-biter over Newcastle 2 - 1 on Monday (Oct. 16) in Orono. Goalie Jason Hoyne set the tone early, slamming the door on a Newcastle breakaway -- the forward tried a fake but Hoyne wasn't fooled. Orono fought back Winger Rob Blaker flipped a pass to a waiting Mike Hicks who fired pure heat, forcing a good save. The Cafe Club finally iced the game with only 58 seconds seconds left - a hustling Jess Rice scored on a goal mouth rebound off a Kyle Balson sizzler from the point. Orono outshot Newcastle 24 to 13. Country Cafe Atoms Come Close HAL/BURTON OVER ORONO IN FRIDAY NIGHT NA/LB/TER The Orono Country Cafe Atom reps suffered their first loss this season on Friday's Hockey Night in Orono, dropping dropping a 4 to 2 nail-biter to Haliburton. The team from The Great White North popped an empty netter late in the third to stall an Orono comeback. Haliburton netted two in the first and looked like they might run away with it, especially especially after scoring short- handed for their second. On a couple of shifts mid-period, Matt Dobson and Matt Moffat had chances in front, but had to deal with a stingy goalie. The team was frustrated on two powerplays. Spéedy Centre Devin Robinson struck for a couple of chances late in the period when he cruised in • all alone, plus he almost whacked in his own rebound. Goalie. Byron Lott was big- time busy in the second, making making a couple pf lightning fast glove saves. A .frustrated Haliburton team took two game misconducts - a hit from behind and a hit to the head as the boys from the north got chippy -, the refs sure took care of the match. Kyle Balson dazzled the crowd in hot pursuit of a breakaway, breaking up a good scoring chance. Netminder Lott made two more stellar saves as the peri- qd wore down. The Cafe Club climbed back into contention late in the period as Robinson scored, snapping in a shot off a behind the net pass. But the opposition opposition stormed back with five consecutive shots and jumped ahead by two with only nine seconds left in the period. Orono matched Haliburton stride for stride in a fast paced third, climbing to within one as Robinson nailed his second of the game, banking the puck off the falling goalie from the left side of the net. Defenseman Balson continued his amazing defensive game, breaking up a 2 on 1 plus hunting down another breakaway. breakaway. The Atoms pulled their goalie with under a minute left, but let in an empty netter to end the game. Orono managed managed 10 shots on net while the opposition landed 17. Orono's Atom House League played on Saturday morning in Bowmanville, with a 3 - 2 loss. Orono's team played great in this, their season season opener, but they couldn't seem to catch up to the Computer Doctor. Scoring for Orono at the three minute mark of the third period was Matt Fuller, assisted assisted by Derek Rocha and Joshua McGill. Orono's second goal was scored by Brock McGill, with the assist going to Ben McKelvie. The Bowmanville team started the scoring with one in the first* but Orono's Josh McGill soon tied it up with help from Noel Snow. Bowmanville flipped three by in the second before.
