Bob Bartlett. Her proud grandparents are Carole and Pat Gardner of Kendal and Susan Heinrichs of Altona, Manitoba. Proud great-grandmother Audrey Beck of Innisfil, Ontario was in attendance Sunday as well. Following the baptism, April Moore of Peteborough sang a solo in honour of Sarah. The choir was honoured to sing "Father Take my Hand" as their anthem. This same song was sung at the grandmother grandmother Carole's baptism. Service was followed by a hearty lunch provided by the family. Sarah slept through the entire baptism and then awoke for the Children's Moments! We are praying for her. Please include her in your prayers. Mae Playford came home again on Tuesday from Bowmanville Hospital and is looking much better this time. KENDAL COMMUNITY CENTRE PROGRESSING : The Kendal Public School will be getting" a paint job in the gym before it becomes the Kendal Community Centre. The Board had a meeting with Fred Horvath, the Operations Manager for the Municipality, and Mike Creighton, Fire Chief for the Municipality on Friday afternoon, October 20. The paint job is scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday starting at 6 p.m. Adult volunteers volunteers are needed to help out. BINGO WINNERS Bingo has started at the Orange Hall every Tuesday everting at 7:00 for the fall and winter. Everyone is welcome to come. Margaret Krissa won six games and Helen Couroux won seven games! Tire Pot of Gold was won by Brenda Lowery. This week's winners of one game each were Anne Zealand and Cathy Switzer. C. W. FALL REGIONAL MEETING Monday, October 23, 6:00 - 9:30 p.m. at Kendal United Church, the Oshawa Presbyterial U.C.W. Evening Fall Regional Meeting was held. Rev. Christopher White spoke on "The Future Hope of the Church". The Church and Women of the United Church have to adapt to the changes in society, such as the newcomers being unable to give long-term commitments, and the leading edge of Baby Boomer women retirees becoming available with their many talents honed in the workplace. The stereotype of a U.CW. needs to be shattered and revised* with the community community at large becoming aware of the many important roles that these women's groups play besides those of hospitality hospitality and fund raising. Since the U.C.W. came into, existence, thé groups have raised $92 million for the church! What an incredible feat! The Good News Resource Centre had a. display of books and other Christian literature. ■ Delicious refreshments were offered before the program got underway. U.C.W. MAYOR HAMRE TO OPEN KENDAL COMMUNITY CENTRE NOV4 Saturday, November 4, at 11- am. a parade for everyone will be held in Kendal. After this will be the Official Opening Ceremonies with Mayor Diane Harare cutting the ribbon followed by an Open House. Entertainment and some special surprise celebrities. Many fun-filled activities will take place at the brand new Kendal Community Centre (known in its' previous life as Kendal Public School). More details will follow so start planning your parade costume and entry! See you there! COMMUNITY CENTRE EXECUTIVE The interim Board has decided on the executive which will lead it from now until April 2001 when elections elections will be held for a new Board. President - Kathy Picco, Vice-President - Chris Perron, Secretary-Treasurer - Joan Anderson. Classrooms and the gym will be available for rent. The building is in excellent shape and the chairs and tables are on order. Equipment for the kitchen is also,o,n order so that when the ■ Open House ■ arrives, you can all see for yourselves. STOVES NEEDED Two electric stoves in good condition are needed for the Community Centre. The chairs and tables are far more expensive than we had anticipated anticipated so we are hoping that some Good Samaritans out there will be able to either donate or sell at a minimal charge any of the following: stoves, sets of pots and pans, large kettles, serving utensils? chopping boards, cookie sheets, serving tfays, and serving serving carts.
