Orono Weekly limes, Wednesday November 32, 2000 - 5 Midget Leafs Roll On The Orono Lumber Midget Leafs suffered their first defeat of their season last Saturday night at the hands of a good Cannington Sunderland team. Orono started slowly and that seemed to set the tempo for most of the game. They were down 2-0 in the third period when Chris Bouley let a shot go from the point that snuck its way through into the net. The goal was an unassisted power play marker. marker. However, Cannington would score a late empty net : ter to win 3-1. The next night the boys were home to Mariposa and made no mistake mistake about winning. They opened the scoring early in the second when Mike Trotman put one home from Lee Allin and Derek Heerschop. They would add to that a few minutes later as Allin put home a point shot on the power play. Assists to Ricky Howe and Heerscop. Mariposa scored twice before the second frame ended as did Oroho with Matt Reid and Mike Trotman scoring the goals. Chris Bouley, Jeff Thompson and Howe drew assists; In the third, Orono continued continued to dominate the score- sheet as Thompson scored on the power play from Dan Cowx and Mike Trotman completed the hat trick late in the third from Thompson and Howe. Final Score 6-2 Orono. NOTES: Orono played this past Sunday night on the road in Omemee and came away with 4-4 tie. Peter Heerschop provided some well-needed, and well-appreciated well-appreciated man power. Oronolumber Midget leafs On Saturday, November 18, the Orono Atom Leafs travelled travelled to Bowmanville. Ordno looked asleep as Bowmanville took the- lead 2-0 at the end of the first, but were giving Bowmanville a good go. In the third and final period, Orono finally woke up and put . a goal between the pipes. The goal was scored by Josh Dobson and the assist went toArron Zolderdo at 11:02. Then, just when Orono was getting warmed up, the Bowmanville team put the icing on the cake with 4:43 left. Orono kept their heads up, and scored two more, but it wasn't enough and Orono took a tough loss. Orono's last two goals were by Mike Barnes and Arron Zolderdo. The café kids seemed a little little sluggish during the first three shifts of the game, unable to get a shot on net until the 6:45 mark. Woodville applied the pressure, pressure, but café netminder Jason Hoyne was red hot, turning aside a couple of tricky scoring scoring chances. Winger Micheal Hicks gave the Atoms their only scoring chance of the period, hustling in behind the defense and letting go a low shot that forced a quick pad save. Orono was tagged with a penalty at 6:02 but a stingy cafe defense allowed only one chance on Hoyne - he turned aside that chance with a slick stick save. The woodmen surprised surprised Orono late in the period scoring at 1:12 to take the early lead. Orono's play picked up speed in the second with 6 decent scoring chances, they outscored Woodville 3 to 1. Winger Tyler Lawrence banged in a rebound through the pads from a Jesse Rice shot at 9:03 to start the roll. Goalie Hoyne broke up a scoring scoring chance seconds later with a nice poke check, clearing the puck from the crease. The restaurant boys took the lead when Matt Dobson smoked in a knee high shot just inside the post from the left circle, Rob Blaker and Andrew Kirkbride assited. At 3:51, Jesse Rice one-timed in Orono's third, the game winner, from a Tyler Lawrence pass out of the left corner. Woodville sawed their way to within one scoring at 1:36. Center Devin Robinson and winger Tyler Lawrence took control of the third, both players players were on fire all period and both scored late in the game to seal the win. At 0.52 Robinson smoked in over the blueline on a breakaway but his shot missed the mark, he picked up the loose puck behind the net, slipped infront on the right side and snapped it in the comer. About 30 seconds seconds later, Robinson was in on goal again, driving around the defense and letting go a hard shot that hit the goalies pad. Lawrence, infront, snagged the rebound and lifted a backhand backhand shot over the goalie to finish the scoring.
