Candidate (continued from page 1) us counts for votes, bût didn't include counts for those who voted for the Mayor and didn't didn't bother voting for anyone else. In some cases they [DROs] did and in some cases they didn't," stated Barrie. Gasser stated in her presentation, presentation, "It is in the public's interest that any official who wins an election does so in an election that is fair, where the election results clearly show that all ballots were appropriately appropriately counted or set aside for valid reasons, and that this is appropriately documented." "What instructions were given to election officials and DROs regarding taped envelopes, or envelopes that looked as if they may have been, resealed?" asked Gasser. Were check marks or other marks well within the space proved for the "X" accepted, and how were ballots that appeared to be photocopied handled? Gasser asked. In her November letter to Woo, the Clerk stated, "I have been advised that during the count three ballots were found which did not have printing on the back side. These ballots were rejected from the count by the DROs." Mayor Mutton moved that the matter be dealt with, 'in camera' immediately following following Gasser's presentation. The Mayor said staff have bent over backwards to provide provide this information. Taxpayers have spend enormous enormous amounts of money on this issue, and this has got to stop. Councillor Schell made a motion that Ms. Gasser's delegation delegation and Mr. Woo's questions questions be referred to the Clerk's Office, and that a response be sent to Mr. Woo by Friday, December 15, 2000. In the event the Clerk fails to provide satisfactory documented documented responses to the questions questions posed, Gasser asked that a 'request for a recount-' be added to the December 18th Council Agenda so a remedy can be decided upon by Council. "You owe a clean election result to all candidates both present and future, and to all your constituents," stated Gasser. Clarington Fire Calls The Clarington Fire.
