From Around Home by Roy Forrester One can do a lot of bird watching from your car If you are Interested In wild turkeys. It would seem the birds are coming out Into the open fields to feed on left-overs from the harvest of com and soya beans and even at bird feeding stations. stations. On a tour of the countryside countryside with Don Lycett, our first recording was a flock of over 20 Cedar Waxwings on Jewel Road south of the Sixth Line. Travelling east on the Sixth Line we crossed over the N ewtonville / Kendal Road to Gilmore Road where we turned south. A flock of some 45 turkeys were sighted feeding on a residential lawn on the west side of the road. Apparently the birds are shifting from house to house in this area. We also sighted a flock on the south Side of the 8th Concession Road east of Carscadden Road. A further flock was sighted on the west side of the Dell Road south of Thertell Road. As with the above flock they were out In the open feeding by scratching away the snow cover. At the same time Doug Ferguson reported a flock of some 50 birds on the west side of Best Road, north from Orono and north of Skelding Road. This flock is generally out In mid morning. The above might set a course for you if you and yours wish to get out and about In the comfort of the automobile. Many have been reporting reporting few birds at their feeders feeders of late but that might be changing. Don Lycett comes up with a list of a Downy Woodpecker, Blue Jays, Doves, Tree Sparrows, and a host of House Finch. With Donna keeping tab on the feeder at home the Downy is back along with Red Breasted Nut Hatch, and a small group of Juncos. It has been a sparse winter for us as far To you - all the best for the New Year from those at 6 Mill Lane. The Apple Blossoms had three great goals in the first period. Matt Fuller started us off with help from Cory Veloce. Daniel Hodgson slid goal number two in from the stick of Derek Rocha. Veloce couldn't be stopped with help from Noel Snow. Early in the second, Mitchell Harding let one loose with the assist going to Fuller. Millbrook got on the board but Harding dropped another in from Brock McGill. Millbrook tried to catch up with three more quick goals but our boys wouldn't let them get close. McGill did some fancy footwork footwork for another goal unassisted unassisted and the last goal went to Noel Snow also an unassisted unassisted beauty! A great game boys! The final score was Orono 7, Millbrook 4. On Sunday, December 17, again in Orono, the Apple Blossoms faced James Publishing in regular league play. The opposition scored in the first three minutes of the game and that's where Orono left them. Daniel Hodgson was hot on their tails with a shot in goal with help from Cory Veloce and Brock McGill. Next in line was Noel Snow off the sticks of Josh McGill and Mitchell Harding. To start the second period off, Matt Fuller slipped one in, handed over from Veloce. Seconds later, it looked like a replay as Fuller slammed the puck in again with help from Veloce. Hodgson scored a beauty with Josh McGill getting getting a great assist. Brock McGill scored our last goal on a great breakaway with help from Fuller. This was also an outstanding outstanding game by goalie Tanner Johnson. Final score was Orono 6, James Publishing 1.
