The team kicked off the holidays holidays with a 7-1 loss in league play to Subway. Scott Duquette got the start in net. Orono's goal was scored by Kevin Jackson, assisted by Brian Knapp. Six and a half hours later, Feature Player of the Week Jon DeVries Team: TRT Sand & Gravel Position: forward/defense Shoots: right Stored 5 pH in one game Orono met Williams AV. Jon DeVries was the man of the hour scoring five points. Jon had four goals and one assist! Kurtis Zwolinski also scored one. Brian Knapp had three assists. Nick Lawrence also notched an assist. Orono won 5-3. Kevin Jackson played a strong game in net, stopping some hard shots. On December 27, Orono travelled to Colboume for a tournament. The gravel pit gang played two great games but couldn't get the win. The first game ended in a tie with Brighton. It took five minutes of overtime to decide this one. Pat Rempel was amazing in net! After each game, the teams pulled their coaches on a sled race. Orono set the speed record for the tournament and were crowned dog sled champs. Orono kicked off with a 3-2 exhibition win on December 20. This was Scott Henderson's day, when he notched a hat trick. Assists went to Adam Wood, Brien Konopka, Josh Flynn, and Mike Howe. On December 23, Orono met CIBC in league play. This was an ugly, penalty-marred match. Heather Maitland scored the lone marker unassisted. unassisted. On December 29, the team went to Baltimore and were "A" finalists. Orono beat Baltimore 7-0 in the opening game. Andrew Fudge notched the shut-out. Scott Henderson opened the scoring, assisted by Adam Wood. Cam Delorme scored, assisted by Joey Robertson and Adam Wood. Garrett MacDonald scored thé third, assisted by Josh Flynn. Adam Wood scored the fourth assisted by Heather Maitland. Maitland scored the next, unassisted. Greg Howe scored, assisted by Scott Henderson. Adam Wood rounded out the scoring assisted by Matt Bester and Heather Maitland. In game #2, Orono met Port Hope and were 4-2 winners. Goals went to Wood (2), Maitland and Delorme. Assists went to Maitland, Konopka and Bester. Mike Hisson was strong in net for his team. In the "A" final, Orono met Coldwater. This was a great game, but Orono didn't get the bounces. Bester scored the lone marker, assisted by Scott Henderson. Orono lost 3-1. Fudge was strong in net. Orono met the Rotary Club on December 30. The Orono club played two league games back to back, followed by a tournament tournament in Colboume. Thursday's action took place on home ice against Bobcaygeon. Bobcaygeon jumped out to an early lead but the Leafs sprung into action in the second period to even the score. Late in the third period, Shelby MacDonell notched her second second of the game to defeat the Cougars by a score of 2-1. On Friday's game the Orono club played host to one of the top teams, Cannington, The Orono club fell behind early, the Cannington club leading by a 4-1 margin. The Leafs fought back hard but came up one goal short. Orono was defeated 4-3. Goal scorers for Orono were Tyler Armstrong, Matt Field, and Jesse Desourdy. This past Saturday, the team travelled to Colboume for a one day tournament. The team beat Brighton by a score'of 2-0 to advance to the B Championship. The goal getters were Shelby MacDonell, and Matt Field. Tyler Webster and Alanna Ticknor had the shut-out. Orono played against Sterling in the B final but their busy week of hockey had taken it's toll. The Leafs were defeated 4-0. Next action takes the club on the road once again. Friday the team will travel to Woodville. Russ Major Plumbers thrown a wrench The Russ Major Novicë Rep team had a busy holiday Allin's Orchard Bantams not hot enough for Ops It was a light holiday schedule for the Allin's Orchard Elantams as they only had one game over the Christmas Holiday. The team traveled to Ops to play the Flames on December 28. The Flames were hot and led the Leafs 2-1 at the end of the first period. Scoring for Orono was Curt Robinson, unassisted. Orono tied the game in the second as Josh Westerink put away a pass by Justin Szymczak at 11,45. Unfortunately for the Leafs, the Flames outscored them 3- 1 in the third with Orono's marker coming from Chris Moffat, assisted by Kyle Cox. The game started out with our 2 injured players, Moffat and Cox back in the lineup, but late in the third, Moffat took a hard hit and is questionable for this weeks tournament. The boys also welcome Andrew King to the team as he will be co- keeper of the twine tent along with Kevin Martin. The boys travel to Tweed on January 2nd. for a holiday tournament. Good luck and good weather. Stuff's team in the driver's seat On Sunday, December 17, Stuff's met Young Drivers and the Stuff's showed Young Drivers how to drive to the net. The trainer and coaches were treated to an early Christmas present as Stuff's Novice came out playing like a dream team. Crisp passes and numerous set up plays by the whole team kept the puck in Bowmanville's end for the most part of the game. Orono's goal came in the second period from winger Stosh Fabricius with assist from defenceman Derek Snow. Bowmanville came back with a goal in the third, leaving the final score 1-1. Forward pressure was supplied supplied by Drew Rocha, Harley McColl, Steve Donadel, Anthony Bortolazzo, Matt Puddicombe, Nick Kuijpers, Brian Dillon and Chad Moore. Goaltender Shawn Lowe had an excellent game with defensive end protection by Jordan McDonnell, Ty Simpson and Tyler Butt, with extra defensive effort in front of the net by Alex Shkuratoff.
