Ministry to begin moraine eomolMion VAUGHAN - Municipal Affairs and Housing Minister, Chris Hodgson announced yesterday, June 12 that former senior civil servant, Ron Vrancart will lead the provincial government's consultation consultation on the Oak Ridges Moraine. Vrancart, who was deputy minister of the Ministry of Natural Resources when he retired from the Ontario civil service in 2000, was instru mental in leading the provincial provincial Lands for Life consultation consultation in 1997 and early 1998. That consultation led to the announcement in March 1999 of Ontario's Living Legacy, the most comprehensive, long-term program of natural heritage protection in the province's history. ■ "Ron has demonstrated a unique ability to bring together together stakeholders and the public to find consensus on a bal anced strategy for preserving preserving and protecting Ontario's natural heritage," states Hodgson. "I look forward to his help as we consult and develop an action plan for the Oak Ridges Moraine." Vrancart will chair an inter-ministry consultation team, and an advisory panel representing environmentalists, environmentalists, municipalities, conservation conservation authorities, developers and other stakeholders. "There aren't many challenges challenges that would get me out of retirement, but I couldn't pass up an opportunity to work on an important project like the Oak Ridges Moraine," says Vrancart. "I also look forward to a solution that can be supported by all parties and groups with an interest in the moraine." Hodgson said that the goal is to provide certainty and a better co-ordinated approach for all who work or live on the moraine. "Areas that need to be protected protected will be protected," proclaims proclaims Hodgson. "Areas' that need further study, will be studied, and development applications in areas that clearly need no special protection protection will be able to proceed according to clear, understandable understandable rules." Mathew Mercer sustained some severe punctures to his neck last Tuesday on the Orono Public School play ground. One of Matthew's buttons got caught in the fence when he ran past, pulling him onto a loosened wire, which was jutting out. The bottom of the high fence, installed to keep balls from landing on the Hwy, is about four feet from the ground. The school's principal states the fence will be repaired, and till that time, the area behind the soccer nets is off limits to the school children. (continued from page 2) just knew it couldn't be true and I told him so. I got pictures pictures he said. Just when I doubted him the most he came up with one. Henri had a nice little farm right on the edge of a lake north of Keene, but I don't remember a track for training. training. He seemed to spend most of his time either brushing or petting his horses horses and talking. He could talk French, English or both at the same time. Most of the time Henri raced in Montreal or at Connaught Park in Aylmer, Quebec. Thé trips to Montreal were the. best. Henri would talk non-stop both ways. His best horse then was "Afterthought" and tie made a lot of money. He would talk, about the Montreal Canadians wanting him to play for them when he was younger. I doubted that very much until he showed me pictures of him playing Junior A hockey for the Trois Rivers team. He was nearly fifty when things suddenly changed in his life. A girl by the name of Ingrid Nordin came into his life. She was a beautiful Swedish girl that had come over to Canada to learn about standard tired horses. Somehow she got hooked up with Henri to learn the fine art of training trotters. Ingrid taught Henri a thing or two also. One weekend I went down to Henri's and he had built a Swedish bath house for Ingrid. I went in and it was not for me, with all the steam I couldn't see with my glasses glasses on and a lot less with them off. It was a lot more enjoyable sitting at the picnic table watching Ingrid and her friends racing to the lake, diving in and bobbing back to the bath house. Shortly after Henri and Ingrid married they went over to Sweden to live. Once a year they come over to visit and go to the horse sales to buy young horses. In Sweden they race only trotters and Henri still races a few and talks a lot. MS lives here. It's here in our community. Please make a difference by volunteering.
