Newcastle Arena ready to move on renovation project With the approval of a $300,000 interest free loan from the Municipality, the Newcastle Arena Board can go ahead with a much needed renovation renovation project. Last month the Arena Board Comprised a priority list of renovations they would like to have completed. Number one on the list is to ; bring the snack bar to the main floor which they feel would increase revenue and make the arena more user friendly. The snack bar is situated upstairs where no one goes. The second item on the list is to increase dressing room space and improve shower facilities in the building. The Board also requested a new roof over the lobby and entrance areas, and for upgrades to the refrigeration plant which would improve efficiency. Municipal Staff have deemed these , improvements improvements to be the responsibility of. the Municipality and, will address them at the appropriate appropriate time through the Capital Budget process. A widened corridor leading to the dressing rooms was on the wish list, however staff considered this a non-essential at this time, but will have an engineer look into the matter. The lobby and entranceway need some redoing to improve traffic flow says Arena Board Chair Gord Lee.
