Horvath, Director of Operations Municipality of Clarington 40 Temperance Street Bowmanville, Ontario L1C3A6 CLEARING YOUR SIDEWALKS - BY-LAW 93t144 The Municipality of Clarington has in effect By-law 93-144 as amended, a By-law which regulates the clearing away and removal of snow and ice from roofs of buildings and from sidewalks within the Municipality. By-law 93-144 states: • Every Owner/occupant is to ensure sidewalks abutting their property are cleared of snow/ice within 12 hours after a fall of snow, rain or hail. * In the event a fall of snow has an accumulation in excess of 20 cm., the 12hour time frame for clearing away snow will be extended to 36 hours. . |f the sidewalk remains slippery, suitable material must be spread to alleviate the hazard. . Sidewalks must be kept free of slippery surfaces, snow, slush or ice, between fails of snow, rain or hail. * The Municipality may have the work done and the resulting cost assessed against the owner. • No notice be given prior to any work being carried out., With everyone's adherence to these requirements and everyone's diligence in carrying out the necessary necessary work, our sidewalks will remain accessible and safe for children, the elderly, the handicapped and anyone who has occasion to use then during the winter months. Leading the Way CORPORATION OF THE MUNICIPALITY OF CLARINGTON PUBLIC NOTICE www.mumcipality.clariiigtort.oii.ca REGULATIONS FOR THE 2001-02 WINTER SEASON NOVEMBER 12, 2001 TO APRIL 26, 2002 Area residents are hereby advised of the Provincial and Municipal regulations applicable to the 2001- 2002 Winter Season, November 12, 2001 to April 26, 2002 as follows: The Highway Traffic Act (R..S.O. 1990): Section 170(121 prohibits the parking of vehicles on any highway in such a manner as to interfere with the movement to traffic or the clearing of snow from the highway. Section 170(151 provides the authority for the removal of any vehicles, at the owner's expense, found to be causing an obstruction on a highway. Section 181 prohibits the depositing of snow or ice on a public roadway. Municipality of Clarington By-law 91-58: Section 4-6 (i) prohibits the parking of vehicles on any roadway for a period longer than three (3) hours, and is also applicable to overnight parking on any road under the jurisdiction of the Municipality of Clarington. Section 4-6 fLY states that no person shall on any highway park any vehicle between the hours of 3:00 a.m. and 5:00 a.m. Frederick J.
