The team had a rough first period and never recovered. Down 6-0 after the first, the Tykes became stronger as the game continued. Orono's first call was scored by Mitchell Marchbank, assisted by Ben Smith. Then Dylan Dennis gave the fans something to cheer about as he scored two goals on the same shift: Christopher Haass picked up an assist on the second second goal. Orono had strong goaltending goaltending shared by Christopher Haass and Shannon Thompson. Good luck on Friday, team, as you come up against Bowmanville at home. -FD & TD Wooden Carousel digs in to earn a second win At 9 a.m. on Sunday, November 11 The Wooden Carousel played host to Bowmanville #18. The first period was extremely exciting, with the teams seeming to be evenly matched. There were end to end battles over the puck. At 13:35 on the clock the Wooden Carousel received their 1st goal of the game from Mitchell Harding assisted assisted by Harley McColt. At 8:04 Bowmanville tied the game. With the assistance of Mitchell Harding and Cody Dulbecco, Orono's Noel Snow gave Orono the lead, ending the first period 2 - 1. The second period was just as fruitful for the Wooden Carousel. With excellent team work and great skill Orono received their 3rd goal of the game from the line of Noel Snow, Mitchell Harding and Cody Dulbecco to end the second period 3-1, Not giving up, Bowmanville dug in and sent plenty of shots at Orono's goalie: However, with only 1 second remaining Orono's Mitchell Harding scored his second goal of the game unassisted on an empty net, and so giving the Wooden Carousel their 2nd win of the season! This could not have happened happened without the excellent goal tending of Tanner Johnson and Bryce Cochrane and the defense and forward help of Jevon Staples, Matt Mercer, Andrew McClatchey, Kevin Jackson, Chad Moore, Jordan McDonnell, Zachary Flood, and Derek Snow. Missing in action were players players Lucas Martin, Neale Aziz and Derek Rocha. Keep up the great team work Orono. JJ Newcastle Seniors Euchre Tues. ' That seems to be the way to describe the season so far, for Orono's Novice hockey team. Orono was defeated 8-0 by Bill's Truck Stop, on Saturday's game. The teams seemed to be evenly matched in the first period with only one Bowmanville goal scored, and a great save by new goalie Kurds Zwolinski when he faced a Bowmanville breakaway breakaway However, in the second peri- ' od Bowmanville scored five goals, while Orono only had a few shots on net. Some great defensive work was seen in the third period. Alexandria A mi strong fell down after getting the puck out of the goal zone, a Bowmanville player nabbed it and shot it back toward the net, while she tried to get back up, she fell on it stopping the puck with her knee and holding it there until her teammates came to the rescue. In another play Zwolinski slowed a shot on net but couldn't couldn't stop it. Cory Weiss came in behind and stopped it just before it crossed the goal line In the change room, trainer Brent Weiss congratulated Zwolinski on his good job in net ahd asked if he would be in net next game Zwolinski refused. The trainer looked around the room at the sweating, happy kids and asked "Who wants to be goalie next time?" A number of voices rang out, "IT! be goalie", "I'll be goalie". So, next Saturday there will be another game and another goalie. Unexpected Extra Since the Stuff's Novice ■ team has such a resourceful, dedicated coach, the team was able to have an unscheduled exhibition game in Grafton on Sunday night. They played a great game against Mr. Sub, coming close to winning with a final score of 5-3. The goals were scored by Christopher Herman sen; Laurie Burt, 1 assisted by Brandon Cox and Theo DeVries; and Brandon Cox, with an assist by Nicholas Lawrence. It was an especially exciting game for first year player Laurie Burt, as she scored her first goal! When she was asked how she felt, her eyes lit up and her hands flung up in tile air, "Great!" -AD Allin's Orchard Leafs perfect in league play The Allin's Orchard Bantam Leafs continue to have tremendous success as they sport a perfect record so far in league play. However, the first blemish on their overall record occurred Friday night as they played host to the CRHL Selécts. Things were not smooth from the get-go as the visitors visitors scored early to give themselves à boost and a 1- 0 lead. Orono tied the game in the second as J.C. Beecroft scored, assisted by Adrian Vasseur. The tie was short-lived however as the Selects scored five minutes later. Early in the third, the visitors visitors again were able to capitalize capitalize on their opportunities and increase the lead to 3 - 1, That lead would prove to. be too steep a hill to climb for the boys on this night. They put up a valiant effort with Steve Hicks scoring scoring 'in the third from Evan • Moore closing the lead to one goal. Kyle Allin had a chance to tie the game late in the third but rang his excellent deke off the outside post. Orono fell short, losing 3-2. Sunday night the team travelled to Fenelon Falls for a tilt with the Flyers. The boys started with a bang opening the scoring at 8:22 with Kyle Allin scoring on the power-play from a pass by Brian Hsani and J.C. Beecroft. Fenelon tied the game midway through the first frame but Adrian Vasseur put Orono ahead on a set-up by Pisani. Greg Dunham gave the Leafs a 3 - 1 lead in the second from Steve Hicks. Orono added two more goals in the third when Brent Vanstone scored from Mark Spiers and Steve Hicks scored from Adrian Vasseur and J.C. Beecroft. These goals were enough to secure the victory and keep alive the winning streak.
