Orono and Frankford had split wins in the pre-season, then Orono won the first regular regular season game 4 to 2. For Friday's game, it was the Frankford players who made the most of their chances and the first period ended 3 to 0 for Frankford. But give the Orono team credit for not giving up, even though it seemed nothing was bouncing their way. Six minutes minutes into the second period, Ricky Howe set up Matt Zawislak for Orono's first goal. Then, with three minutes left in the period, Jim Conboy pulled Orono to within one goal on assists from Derek Heerschop and Jeremy Czechowski. Early in the third, a bad bounce at the blue line led to Frankford going up by two goals. An empty net goal brought the final score to Frankford 5, Orono 2. Lakefield came to town on Sunday night. This re-match was not as rough as expected. The Orono team scored two goals in the first, two in the second and four in the third! That is about the only way to describe the team these days as they continue to reel off victory victory after victory. In all three games this week, Orono pulled off amazing, come-from-behind victories to tighten their grasp on top spot in the division. Last Wednesday, the Leafs travelled to Ops to face the Flames. The hometown team opened the scoring midway through the first and held that lead until 9:48 of the second. That was when Orono heated up. Kyle Cox tied the game on a nice feed from Kyle Allin. Just over a minute later, Allin set up Brent Vanstone for a goal and a 2-1 lead. Ops fought back to tie the game before the end of the second frame and the teams headed to the third in a 2-2 deadlock. Evan Moore turned out to be the hero of the night as he scored the game winning goal at 10:37 of the third period assisted by Doug Garlick. Orono then played excellent defensive hockey the rest of the way to preserve the 3-2 victory. On Friday night, Orono travelled travelled north to face the newly formed Highland Storm, a combined Haliburton/Minden team. Orono looked sluggish early in the game and it proved costly costly as the hosts were far from gracious, scoring twice late in the period to open up a 2-0 lead. Highland made it a 3-0 game early in the second period and it looked like Orono was in a fair amount of trouble. The boys finally got on the score- sheet at 8:28 of the second as Doug Garlick scored, assisted by Mike Fuller. The period ended with Highland up 3-1. Orono scored 4 times in the third! The first goal was scored as Mike Fuller and Doug Garlick teamed up again, only this time Fuller was the goal-getter. Orono tied the game at 4:59 as Adrian Vasseur scored an unassisted goal. Doug Garlick scored just over one minute later to give his team the 4-3 lead. Brian Pisani was credited with the lone assist. Pisani then scored one of his own at 2:47 to make the score 5-3. Adrian Vasseur picked up the assist. Highland scored with one minute left to make things interesting, but in the end it was Orono on top with the 5-4 Leading the Way CORPORATION OF THE MUNICIPALITY OF CLARINGTON PUBLIC NOTICE www.muiiicipality.clarington.oiii.ca PRE-TEEN DANCES (10-12 YEAR OLDS) Rickard Recreation Complex Friday, December 14, 2001 7:00- 9:00 PM Tickets available on Monday December 10 at the Rickard Recreation Complex for $5.00 Courtice Community Complex Friday, December 21, 2001 7:00 - 9:00 PM Tickets available on Monday, December 17 at the Courtice Community Complex for $5.00 FUTURE DANCE January 25th, 2002 at the Courtice Community Complex For additional information please call 905-623-5728. victory. Ian Crashley made several key saves to aid the Orono defense in holding on for the 3-2 victory. One week later the boys faced off against a pretty good Mariposa Lightning team. Orono started out with a bang. Kevin Ladoucer scored an unassisted goal to lift Orono up 1-0. Ladoucer then helped set up Brian Pisani for the Leaf's second goal, also assisted assisted by Steve Hicks.
