The team had two strong back-to-back games and tied them both. Orono- met Bowmanville on December 22 and skated to a 5-5 tie. Tyler Skelton opened the scoring assisted by Josh Dobson and Ken Jackson. Adam Wood scored the third, Newcastle Funeral Home Peeweeswork hard for win The Orono team had Christmas on their minds on December 23rd as they made their way to Manvers for a game. \ The game started out with no score in the first period. Then Manvers scored two goals in the first half of the second period. The Orono boys kept their heads in the game and they managed one point at the 3-minute mark, the goal being scored by Devon Robinson, assisted by Doug Deboo. After the flood, Orono couldn't manage to hold the Manvers team back. They scored three more goals, making making the final score 5-1 for Manvers. With Christmas all behind, Orono made their way to the arena for a game against Newcastle. JANUARY 13th, 2002 at 7:30 p.rri. a point on the board. They lost the game 8-0. On Saturday, December 29th. Orono travelled to Colborne for a tournament. The first game was against Lakefield. It didn't look good for Orono when Lakefield scored two in the first period, one more in the second, and another in the third. It came down to 4 minutes left in the game and Matt Moffat popped two in within 35 seconds seconds - one assisted by Devon Robinson and the other by Scott Henderson. The team was pumped and trying to come back, but couldn't score another point. Final score: 4-2 for Lakefield. The next game was at noon against Colborne. Orono put forth a great effort. Colborne managed to score three points in the first half of the first period. Orono shut them down after that, but couldn't manage to put the puck between the pipes. The final game of the day was played at 4pm against Manvers. Manvers was hungry hungry for victory and walked away with a 7-0 win. The Orono squad worked hard and played some top teams throughout the day. Shane Winters had net duties for the tournament as Alex Hart was away. Orono was the home team on .Sunday, January 6 at 6pm against Sunderland. This was a great game for the team, with Orono having their first victory in some time. Orono started the scoring off with Nick Fall is sending one home assisted by Devon Robinson, and Scott Henderson putting a point on the board assisted by Josh Flynn. In the second period, Orono once again started the scoring. This time, Devon Robinson scored assisted by Nick Fall is, ' up from Kyle Balson. At this point, Sunderland put a scare into the Orono squad by scoring scoring two. goals in one minute. Orono put another between the pipes, this time from Mike Hicks, assisted by Dan Reilly. The Sunderland team had not given up, and with 10 seconds left in the game, scored again. ' Orono walked away winners with a 4-3 finish. Net duties went to Alex Hart. Way to go guys. Paul Brownell and Jason Hoyne shared goal- tending duties in both games and were amazing: On December 23,, Orono met Land and Sea Variety and skated to a 3-3 tic. Captain Andrew Kirkbride broke his scoring slump by slapping home the first two goals of the game (the goalie never saw them coming). Nick Fallis picked up the only assist. Josh Dobson scored the third, assisted by Adam Wood and Blain Cox. Adam Wood tie the game with a minute left, unassisted. Cory Veloce, Matthew Smit and Justin Turner worked very hard in this strong team effort. Orono competed in the Checker's Tournament in Oshawa oil December 27, 28 and 29. The team had amazing amazing results, finishing seventh out of 26 teams! (More on this next week.) On January 5, back in league play) Orono met Newcastle.. This was a close one ending in a 3-3 tie.
