They played a homc-aiul-home series with l enelon Falls, splitting the games at one a pieces : The Orono game was played on January 4th and the Lumbermen took it by a score of 4-1. Scoring for Orono were Justin Szymczak (2) and Jamie Rowe (2). Assists went to N. Caruana-2, T. Millson-3, P. Heerschop and .1. Rowe. it was a different outcome in Fenelon Falls on Sunday, Jan. 6 as the Midgets were coming off of a three game tournament. The Lêafs were down by one goal and they were starting to come on strong when the curfew buzzer went, leaving them on the short end of a 3-2 game. Scoring for Orono were Rowe and Robinson with assists for Heerschop, Caruana, and Sutton. On' Saturday, Jan. 5, Orono participated in a tournament in Havelock and faced the home town favorites. Orono's Kennedy played well, in net but the team fell short, losing by a score of 3-2, Orono's point getters were Szymczak, Pisani, and XI il Ison. Assists went to Pisani, James and Field. Orono had better results in game two, beating East Gwillimbury 3-1, Backing up goalie Jeff S lemon with goals were Szymczak (2) and Rowe, with helpers by Millson (2), Heerschop and Sutton. The win put Orono in the 'B' final, where they narrowly beat Milibrook. for the championship championship by a score of 2-1. Orono's points came from R. Sûtton assisted by C. Robinson and N. Caruana. and Tanner Millson assisted by Szymczak and Rowe. Congratulations to Curt Robinson, Justin Szymczak, Peter Heerschop and Paul Garisto who represented the Orono Leafs in Sunday's first annual Midget All-Star game which saw the South beat the North by a score of 3-1. Apple Blossoms ploy tournament The Orono Apple Blossom Shop Atoms competed in two tournaments during the Christmas break. The team played well and tied a game in Lakefield with Port Hope. Shawn Lowe and Alarma Ticknor shared the goaltending goaltending duties and made some spectacular saves. In the first tournament in Lakefield, Orono faced Port Hope, Oakville and Manvers. Orono (continued on page 8) Wooden Carousel tough to beat On Sunday, December 23, Wooden Carousel Atom house league lost to T. Mac Insulation, 5-1. Jevon Staples scored Orono's only goal, unassisted. Orono won 6-3 against Harry Kamstra & Sons on December 29. Bryce Cochrane was between the pipes at the start of the game. Several times he came to the rescue making some great saves. In the first period, Matthew Mercer played relentlessly, checking the opposition whenever they had the puck. Noel Snow, Stuff's goalies a forte Chfistopher Hermansen did a great job saving his team from total annihilation on the weekend. • Though Stutt's Novice team lost 6-1 to Duca on Saturday and 4-0 to Durham Flooring on S iinday, it was not due to poor goal-tending : or lack of effort. There was marked improvement improvement in many of the Other players as well. Troy Dillon has become more aggressive and Erik Easton is showing some great stick handling. Stosh Fabricus, *the only player to get a goal over the weekend, is incredible to watch as he moves' fluidly over the surface of the ice, curving in and out between his opponents. He has an amazing way of kicking the puck with-one skate, if it slips, from his blade, and getting his stick around it again without breaking his stride. The week before, Orono lost 6-2 to the Ayren Links Golf Club team. Drew Rocha was in net for that game, and he did a phenomenal phenomenal job. He faced almost three times as many shot's on his net than did the opposing goalie. The opening line up consisted consisted of Mackenzie Tyce-, Brandon Cox and Laurie Burt on forward, and Nick Lawrence and Stosh Fabricus holding the defense. Rocha saw action right away as Links players nabbed the puck and shot it at the left (continued on page 8) Dufferin Aggies miss out along with Cody Dulbecco, played an aggressive game. Jordan McDonnell stole the puck, passed it to Andrew McClatchey, who fired, it past the Bowmanville goaltender. In the second period, Zack Flood fought for the puck and passed it to Mitchell Harding. Harding saw Neale Aziz waiting at the net. With a little flick of his wrist, Aziz shot one in past the Bowmanville goalie. Then, Bowmanville put two goals in, to make the score 2- 2. In the third period, Tanner Johnston made one spectacular spectacular save, but Bowmanville was able to put a shot past him. In the last six minutes of the game, Orono came alive. Harley McColl fought for the puck and passed' it to Andrew, who took a shot. Chad Moore was ready for the rebound, and shoved it in. Kevin Jackson chased that puck down, and made a beautiful pass to Chad. Andrew made his move, received the puck from Chad and took a shot and scored again! Derek Snow made some great passes to his teammates. Lucas Martin was able to take a couple of sjap shots from the blue line and Noel was able to score on a rebound. With less than 2 minutes left on the clock, Chad scored assisted by Lucas. The team was feeling pretty good after winning 6-3. ■ . ' The Wooden Carousel lost,* their first two games 'of thC_ new year. On January 6, Orono lost to Bowrpanville #19 with a score of 7-4, and on January 12, they lost 6-2 to Bowmanville #12, ■ -JM The Dufferin Aggregate Juveniles , were in St. Catharines for a tournament after Christmas. Their first game was against the St. Catharines Warriors. Orono out-played, out-hit and out-chanced their opponents, but three goal posts don't count, and the final score was 2 to 1 for the Warriors, Orono's second game was against a Junior 'C' team from St. Clair, Michigan. The local boys made a valiant effort^ but lost 4 to 1. Game three was against a team from Niagara-on-the- Lake. Orono lost this one by a score of 1.-0. Orono tied their fourth game against the West Lincoln Raptors 1-1. The Dufferin Aggregate Juveniles pulled a win in their final regular season game. It had been a long time since' coach Knight had a full roster on the bench, and it took' almost the first half of the game for the Orono players to re-introduce themselves and to start connecting ' with their passes. * The .Qtonabee Wolves scored in the opening period, then scored 'again early in the second to. go up, 2-1. Kyle Widmeyer got Orono's first goal off a nice passing play from Rob Milford and Jamie Parry. However, the Wolves quickly went up by two goals again. For the rest of the second period, the Orono goals caine fast and furious. Orono's second second goal was scored by Jamie Parry, who was set up by Derek Heerschop and Ricky Howe. Jeremy Czechowski and Bob Witheridge then set up Ryan Homes for the tying goal. It was Rob Milford who gave Orono the lead. Phil Fracz and Jamie Parry get credit for the assist. The third period saw no more scoring and Orono was able to salvage a 4-3 win to end the season with a 16-win, 4-loss, and 2-tie record.
