The first features concerti for alto trombone by Leopold Mozart, Michael Haydn, Wagenseil and Albrechtsbergér, with England's Northern Sinfonia under the soloist's direction. Alain Tmdel is the first brass player ever to win a number of major prizes: first prize in the Montreal Symphony Orchestra soloist competition, first prize in the Canadian International Stepping Stone Competition, the Mildred Dixon-Holmes Artist of the Year Award, and the Virginia Parker Prize (1996). Among the various honors attributed to him, his former Montreal Highschool Joseph François Perrault inaugurated in April 1996 the Alain Trudel Concert Hall. He held the position of first trombone with the Orquestra Ciutat Barcelona (1986-1987) under Franz- Paul Decker. He also held the position of trombonist for the Nouvel Ensemble Moderne of Montreal before dedicating himself to a career as a soloist. He now performs, on average, one hundred con- certs per year.
