( Orono Weekly Times, Wednesday, November 13,2002 - 7 ) Juveniles keep win parade rolling The Dufferin Aggregates Juveniles are starting to roll, which is bad news for the rest of the league. The team is racking up wins in a hurry, and this past week was no exception - the Orono boys defeated Stirling on the road and then hung a thrashing on Omemee at home. Monday night in Stirling, the boys played a solid game and relied on clutch goaltending once again in posting a 3-1 victory. victory. Chris Field started the ball rolling midway through the opening period when he found the mesh assisted by Jamie Rowe. Orono added to its lead early in period number two as big defenseman Kyle Widmeyer scored from Mark Lemieux. It was 3-0 before the period was up as Mike Trotman lit the lamp from midget call-up Ryan Sutton. Stirling drew within two, late in the second making it 3-1. In the third period, both goaltenders shut the door, leaving leaving the score at 3-1 in favour of Orono. Sunday night, the boys returned home after a lengthy road trip and faced a considerably considerably weaker Omemee team. Orono handled them easily in cruising to a 15-0 shellacking. Chris Wood and midget call-up Kevin Martin combined for the shut-out between the pipes for Orono. Orono's goalie, Ian Third, was outstanding in net, coming up with great saves on quality shots. Newcastle had scored four unanswered goals by the third period when Christopher Haass, on a nice pass from Connor Macvarish, took the puck up the ice and scored. (Congratulations, Connor, on your first assist.) Warren Ball had a strong game but could not get the puck past the goalie. (Keep on working and it will come, Warren.) Billy Qualtrough, Cavan Willsie and Taylor Tyce all had good defensive games. The Orono Major Tykes welcome welcome Easton Truck Caps as their sponsor. The team's next game will be Saturday at 4:00 pm in Bowmanville. -VH Strong defense and impressive impressive goals have kept the Orono Minor Tyke's winning streak alive. On Sunday, November 3, Orono Tri Arch Education played Bowmanville OPG. The score was a close one with Orono winning 5-4. The win however was overshadowed overshadowed by the injury of one star centre, Daniel Benedict, who fell into the boards and broke his leg. He will be off for a couple of months. The whole team wishes him a speedy recovery. Scoring goals for Orono were Tate Simpson and Mitchell Trachsler with two each and Christopher Austin with one. The second game of the week featured Orono against Newcastle. Orono won that game 5-2 led by Brett Otterbein's strong goaltending and great defensive work by Owen King, Trevor Greenwood, Lucas Crosby, Kale Stevens, Alex Bortolazzo, Ryan Armstrong, Jacob Diamond and Christopher Third. The goals were scored by Tate Simpson with two, Connor Whitley with one and Ben deBoer with one goal and one assist. The highlight of the game was a penalty shot by Mitchell Van Schyndel who beat the Newcastle goaltender. The next game for the Orono team is Saturday, November 16 at 10:30 in Bowmanville. Bowmanville was the first to score, but were quickly silenced by a marker coming from Mitch Harding with assists going to Breanne Collier and Matt Mercer. Bowmanville came back with two more goals to end the first period. Early in the second period, Orono lit up the score board with a goal from Zak Flood assisted by Mitch Harding and Matt Mercer. Play became heated and Bowmanville was penalized with two game misconducts. A third period goal by Andrew McClatchey with Cafe crew keep sight set on winning streak The Orono Country Cafe Atom rep team continued their winning ways this past weekend weekend with two more victories. On Friday, the Leafs played host to Manvers and were focused and hungry for another win. They scored early and never looked back, defeating the Mustangs 7-2. Goal scorers for Orono were Ryan Samogyi, Sean Bargent, Eddy Meester, Tyler Webster, Spencer Cole, Chris Lunn and Corson Quinn. Ryan Somogyi, Greg St. James and Carson Quinn had two assists each with Spencer Cole, Sean Bargent, Tyler Webster, Jesse Desourdy and Chris Kuijpers each chipping in with one each. There was plenty of great passing especially especially on some of the goals that were scored. On Sunday, the cafe crew travelled to Millbrook hoping to keep the streak alive and they were not disappointed. Spencer Cole led the attack scoring twice and assisting on another while linemates Greg St. James and Sean Bargent had three assists each. Other goal scorers for Orono were Sean Bargent, Tyler Webster and Chris Kuijpers (who notched his first of the year). Final Score: 5-3 in favour of the boys from Orono. Ryan Somogyi, Carson Quinn and Ty Simpson also got on the scoresheet getting one assist each. The Orono team secs action next in Sunderland and Mariposa before returning home on Friday to face Omemee. -KS assists going to Alex Shkuratoff and Mitch Harding was not enough to win the game. Goalies Bryce Cochrane and Tanner Johnston, along with Orono's skilled defence, stood up to some tough shots on goal. Sunday afternoon saw Armstrong's IGA Orono Peewee's in exhibition play against the Newcastle Stars. The first goal was a superb set up by Zack Flood and Mitch Harding with Breanne Collier tipping the puck into the net. The next goal was a beautiful wrist shot from thirty feet out by Brian Hampson v/ith the assist going to Brian Dillon. The third marker of the period was a breakaway rush by Andrew McClatchey. Second period action came early with a goal from Zack Flood after a set up play by Mitch Harding and Brianne Collier. A late second period goal was awarded to Mitch Harding on a passing play with Niel Aziz. The third period also had two goals for Orono. In the first minute of play, a one-two-three pass resulted in a goal by Nick Hutchinson. In the last minute of play in the game, on a pass from Harley McColl, Zack Flood hammered one in to give the Orono IGA Peewee's a 7-3 victory victory over Newcastle.
