Beaverton started the scoring off in the first period with UPI unable to bulge the twine. The second period was a little different different with both teams putting points on _ . the ; board - Beavèrton 4 points and Ororio's UPI squad managing 2 points. Andrew Kirkbride popped the first one in assisted by Doug Deboo and Dan Reilly. The second, by Matt Bester, came off a beauty pass in front of the net by Andrew Kirkbride. UPI held Beaverton down to 1 more goal. Orono's Brock McGill scored the next one oh a pass back to the point. Brock wound up at the blue line to slam it home. Final score 6-3 for Beaverton. Orono's Shane Winters had net duties for the game. Good game, team. Orono headed up to Manvers Sunday night but due to a power outage the game was called after 5 minutes of play. Next UPI games will be November 21 in Mariposa at 7pm. -BH Di's Pizza bantams deliver win .. On Saturday November 16, the Di's Pizzeria Orono Bantam team -faced off against Ritson King Dental on Orono's home ice. Orono beat the previously undefeated Bowmanville team/with a close score of 2-1. The team came ready to play and ready to win. Roughly two and a half minutes into the game, Dustin Armstrong scored Orono's first goal with some hard work around the Bowmanville net. The assist on the goal went to Jamie Stevens. Orono managed to keep this lead until Bowmanville tied the game with 5:09 left to go in the second period. A few minutes later, Orono responded with the winning goal that was scored off a face off won by Denis Beenen. The puck came back and Michael Whelan stepped into it, putting the puck in the corner of the net off a hard, low blast from the blue line. Even though Orono was short- handed for most of the third period they still managed to hold onto the win. The game was fast- paced and exciting. Team play was awesome with great passing efforts and excellent teamwork. An excellent game was played in net by Michael Hisson and all of the players tried hard and contributed to this well- earned win. Orono's next game is scheduled for Sunday, November 24 at 3:30 in Bowmanville.
