"Jake" (Retired 30-year employee of GM North Plant; longtime longtime member of the Sydenham Kiwanis Club, Oshawa; life long member of Orono United Church,) surrounded by his family, after a courageous battle with cancer, at Lakeridge Health Oshawa, on Wednesday, November 27, 2002, in his 76th year. Jake was the loving husband for 53 years of Wilda (nee Hooey). Dear father and best friend of Margaret (Margie) and her husband Robert Prentice of Port Perry, Kathie (Gert) and her husband husband Rick Stephenson of Newcastle, and Scott (Charlie) of Oshawa. Missed by his best buddy, Snoopy. Special Grandpa of Jeanette, Shawn, and Leigh Ann, and great-grandfather of Sarah, Christopher, and Tiffanie. Brother of Eunice Hadder, Enid Tennant; and the late Elmer (Gibby); and brother-in-law of Bill and Connie Hooey and Carole Hooey. Jake will also be missed by all his friends at "the garage." Friends were received at the Newcastle Funeral Home, 386 Mill St. S. (just north of 401 at the lights) on Friday, November 29, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. A funeral service was held in Orono Ùnited Church on Saturday, November 30, at 3:00 p.m. Interment Orono Cemetery. Jake's family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the staff of Lakeridge Health Oshawa, 6F Oncology and Palliative Care, for the wonderful care they provided, both to him and to them. In lieu of flowers, donations to 6F Oncology and Palliative Care at Lakeridge Health Oshawa, Orono United Church, or Cedarvale United Church would be appreciated by the family.
