It was a close game between two evenly matched teams, but Orono played strong to earn the 3-2 win. As a result of a line up shuffle Kenny Jackson found himself playing forward and contributed contributed his first goal of the season season by scoring off a rebound. The assists went to Dustin Armstrong and Tyler Skelton. For the rest of the period Orono fought hard to keep their lead. Early in the second, Newcastle came back with a goal to tie the game up. Less than five minutes later Sam Leggott put Orono back in the lead with her determination and hard work during a scramble scramble around the opponents net. Jamie Stevens also worked hard to earn the assist on the goal. Newcastle answered back with a goal later on in the period. period. Finally, with a little under two minutes left to go in the game, Orono was on the power play when Dustin Armstrong spotted Brock McGill and fed him the puck, allowing Brock to shoot and score the winning goal. Also contributing to the victory victory was Jesse Rice, Matt Fuller and Andrew Fudge who all played exceptionally well. Orono started December off with an exciting game against a team they had lost to and won against. Although Orono came out strong, they were unable to capture the win and suffered a 4-2 loss. Orono opened the scoring up in the first thirty seconds of the game with ai goal coming from Brock McGill off a rebound from Dustin Armstrong and Jonathon Picco. In the third period Orono was down 3-1 but Andrew Fudge displayed several several good moves by chipping the puck past the defense and going in on a break away. He picked the bottom corner and scored the goal making it 3-2. Bowmanville came back with the final goal just over a minute later. This game was very fast paced and exciting. Jamie Stevens and Tyler Skelton delivered delivered hard hits. Kevin Bourke played well and blocked numerous numerous shots. Last Thursday, the Wooden Carousel Atoms traveled to Newcastle knocking them down 10-5. Glenn Murray was between the pipes covering up the puck several times. Chris Hermansen scored the first 'goal unassisted and also scored a second goal late in the third assisted by Brandon Cox. Daniel Stavrakos had some fun scoring 2 big ones with Mackenzie Tyce assisting. Anthony Bortolazzo scored not just a hat trick but 5 goals! The first goal was assisted by Kevin Schoenmaker, the second second by Daniel Stavrakos, the third and fourth goals were unassisted and the fifth was assisted by Alexandra Fallis. Theo Devries was digging in the corners and Briar Definney put forth a great effort. Defensemen Jeremy Moore, Cory Weiss, Trevor Heming and Kevin Schoenmaker kept the puck inside the blue line and chased Newcastle's Thomas Hood, who got all 5 of Newcastle's goals. On Thursday night the boys traveled to Millbrook playing a tough game, but lost 4-2. Goal scorers were Josh McGill assisted by Nick Kuijpers in the first period and Chad Moore assisted by Garrett Klompmaker and Matt Dobson in the second period. Brock Dunham and Shawn Lowe shared net duties for the night. Sunday night the team played aggressively coming away with a 6-5 win over Mariposa on home ice. Chad Moore lit up the scoreboard late in the first period assisted by Matt Dobson. Net minder, Shawn Lowe shut out Mariposa in the first period. In the second period,, Mariposa took the lead as they scored 3 goals. With just 1:05 left on the clock, Josh McGill scored assisted by Lucas Martin. Orono's Dobson scored early in the third period, assisted by Klompmaker. McGill was able to blast one in between the pipes, short- handed. Jeremy Caruana whizzed in Orono's 5th goal after some beautiful passes amongst Tyler Armstrong, Jevon Staples, Jeff Mulder and Tyler Johansen. McGill got his hat trick assisted by Dobson and Staples. Tommy Meester demonstrated strong defensive skills while winger, Gardner Cole played an aggressive game. The Peewees travel to Little Britain on Thursday evening and then to Havelock on Saturday for a tournament. -JM Orono Cafe steams to twin shut-outs The Orono Country Cafe Atom Rep team continued winning this past week. They tied one of their three games and and won two. In Cannington, the Leafs met a stubborn Sabres team. It went down to the wire, ending in a 3-3 tie. Greg St. James had two goals with Ryan Samogyi potting the other. Orono played host to Sunderland on Friday and Ryan Brandt and Patrick Rempel led the way to a 4-0 shut-out. Spencer Cole fired two goals for Orono while Carson Quinn and Jesse Desourdy each netted one. On Saturday, the Leafs were in Ops for an afternoon tilt with the Flames. The fire was put our quickly as Orono rolled to another shut-out, this time 9-0. Carson Quinn was unstoppable, potting three goals. Ryan Somogyi had two with singles from Chris Kuijpers, Jesse Desourdy, Slosh Fabricus and Ty Simpson with his first of the year.
