Juveniles looking to stay on top Orono Weekly Times, Wednesday, December 11,2002 - 7 )■ The Dufferin Aggregates Juveniles are beginning to gear up for another run at an All- Ontario Championship and right now, things look pretty good. The team continues to be a force in every arena they play. Last Sunday evening at home, the Leafs faced a weak Otanabee team but ran into a hot goaltender. Ôrono was still able to fire five goals past him for a convincing 5-1 victory. Scott Poole started in goal for Orono and played great even though he was not tested all that often. Phil Fracz opened the scoring scoring for Orono early in the first, an unassisted tally. Colin Organ made it 2-0 early in the second on a blast from the point. Assist went to Jeremy Czechowski. This game started to get a little little chippy in the second and it resulted in a parade to the penalty box by both teams. Orono made it 3-0 as Zach Ibbotson scored from the point assisted by Organ and Tyler knight. Otanabee recorded their only marker late in the second. Orono secured the vic tory early in the final period scoring twice early to ice things. Jamie Parry scored on a scramble in front assisted by Derek Heerschop followed by Mike Trotman scoring just 19 seconds later from Kyle Widmeyer and Phil Fracz. The game ended, 5-1. Friday night, a short-staffed Orono squad travelled to Ennismore for an exhibition game. The short bench did not work in Orono's favour as they fell 6-2. Sunday evening at home was a different story. Facing a tough Beaverton squad, Orono had the luxury of a full, healthy team and they did not disappoint, disappoint, winning 4-0. Chris Wood started in goal and made several highlight reel glove saves to earn the shutout. Ryan Homes opened the scoring scoring in the first on a beautiful backhand passing play by Mark Lemieux. Also assisting was Scott Wood. Zach Ibbotson had the Beaverton goaltender on his toes all night as he fired several zingers by the net. Early in the second, one of those slap shots found the mesh as Ibbotson scored from Jamie Minor Tykes notth 2 more wins Orono's Tri-Arch Education Minor Tykes kept their unbeaten unbeaten streak alive with two games this past weekend. The first- game on Friday night featured a hot Bowmanville goalie but Orono managed two goals. Brett Otterbein notched his first shutout of the season with the final score being 2-0. Orono goals were scored by Ben deBoer and Mitchell Trachsler. In the second game of the weekend, Orono resumed their goal-scoring beating out Bowmanville Fifth Wheel, 5-1. Ricky Howe made it 3-0 on the power play on another blast from the point, assisted by Paul Landers. Scott Webb rounded out the scoring late in the second as he tipped, yes, another point shot past the goalie. Assists went to Ryan Homes and Jamie Parry. Final score of this game, 4-0. The Juvies play in Frankford Monday night and in Millbrook on Friday night. Next home game is Sunday versus Millbrook. Game time is 4:30. -SW Connor Whitley had one goal and two assists. The rest of the assists went to Kale Stevens with two, Mitchell Van Schyndel, Lucas Crosby, Alex Bortolazzo and Jacob Diamond with one assist each. Orono's strong defense featured featured Owen King, Christopher Austin, Trevor Greenwood, Ryan Armstrong and Christopher Third. The next game for the Orono team is Saturday, December 14 at 12:00 in Newcastle. Playing host to the also-unde- feated Bobcaygeon Cougars on Monday night, the Leafs were up to the challenge. From the first shift the 'Cafe Crew' don- inted both ends of the rink and skated to a convincing 5-1 win. Spencer Cole and Sean Bargent led the way with two goals each while Adam Duke chipped in with the other. Both goalies played well when counted counted on. On Saturday, the Leafs headed off for their second tournament of the year in Douro. Their first game was against the St. James Saints out of Peterborough and the Leafs skated to a 3-2 win. This would be their closest game of the Thursday Night Mixed Bowling high scores 175 + for November 28 day. The boys picked up the pace as the day went along. Carson Quinn, Adam Duke and Specer Cole found the net for the Leafs in this game. Their second game of the tourney was against Innisfil and the Leafs dominated from start to finish, skating to a 5-0 win. Spencer Cole had the hat trick in this one v/ith Sean Bargent and Jesse Desourdy notching the other two. In the championship game the team cruised to a 5-1 win over the Kingston Titans. Sean Bargent and Spencer Cole had two goals apeice, while Jesse Desourdy had the other. The Leafs dominated the game, scoring four times in the first period. Millbrook's lack of offense started a run to the penalty box. Millbrook took six and Orono took five trips to the box. Millbrook could not keep up with the powerful Orono offense. The Applemen took the game'by a score of 8-2.
