Plenty of home ice action for Orono IGA On Sundy afternoon, Orono IGA Peewees met up with Bowmanville's P.K. Vandbodies for a little home ice action. In the first minute of the first period, Mitch Harding scored with assists going to Brian Hampson and Katie Definney. Two minutes later a pass from Ryan Wood earned him an assist on a magnificent rush with the goal going to Matt Mercer. The team played against Newcastle Salvage and lost. In foal for Easton's was Josh Kelly. Next they played in Bowmanville and lost again 7- 2. Curtis Stainton was in gent for Easton's that day. Scoring for Easton's were Ian Third and Warren Ball. Congratulations boys on your first goals of the season. Jennifer Mercer picked up an assist. On Friday night the team played against their mothers in a very exciting game. Marianne Third and Connor Macvarish were both excellent in net. Wednesda)', Decembci_18 L 2002_-_7_^---- Di's Pizza still playing strong In the past two weeks, the Orono Bantam Di's Pizzeria hockey team has played two games. The first of the two was played on December 8th at the Bowmanville arena. This was the first match up between the two teams. The Bowmanville team scored the first goal of the game 10 minutes minutes into the first period. However Orono fought back and answered with a goal less than four minutes later. Michael Whelan snapped a low, hard shot into the bottom corner during a five on three power play. The assists went to Dustin Armstrong and Jonathan Picco. Orono held Bowmanville off for the remainder of the period and for all of the second however, however, the opposing team scored early in the third, giving them a 2-1 lead. Orono continued to be in the game, playing strong, but unfortunately unfortunately Bowmanville scored again with five minutes to go in the third, handing out a 3-1 loss. Congratulations goes out to our players who managed to play a penalty free game. The second of Orono's two games was played on December 14th on home ice. Orono was up against yet another Bowmanville team. Again the opposing team scored the first goal ten minutes minutes into the game. Orono played well and prevented prevented any more goals against them for the remainder of the period. In the second, Bowmanville scored again, putting them up two goals. Orono was not satisfied satisfied with the way the game was going and they started to turn it around. Dustin Armstrong scored Orono's first goal of the game mid way through the second. The assist on the goal went to Andrew Fudge. With the score at 2-1, Orono was right in the game and was determined not to let this one get away. With three minutes left to go, Kevin Bourke took a shot on net from the point. Andrew Fudge found himself in the perfect place and was able to score off of the rebound. The whole team played well this game and was supported by an amazing game in net from Michael Hisson. The team would like to thank their sponsors, Di's Pizzeria, for providing pizzas after the game.
