On Monday, June 7th, 2004, at 9:15 a.m., officers responded to a motor yehicle collision on Concession Road Eight, half a kilometre west of Highway 115. The collision involved. a MG convertible and a Chevrolet van. The driver of the MG was transported to Sunnybrook and Women's College Health Sciences Centre hospital in Toronto by air ambulance where he succumbed to his injuries. He has been identified identified as Robert J. Taylor, age 52 of Colonel Butler Drive in Markham. The driver of the Chevrolet van, a 22-year-old Burlington man and his passenger, a 63- year-old Carlisle male, were transported to Lakeridge Health Bowmanville Hospital, treated for minor injuries and released. The Durham Regional Police Traffic Services Branch, Collision Investigation Investigation Unit, investigated the collision. collision. Quit smoking 1 drop-in 1 sessions continue until July 6 WHITBY, ON, June 7, 2004 - Durham Region residents with a desire to quit smoking are invited invited to join Durham Region Health Department's free drop- in quit smoking support sessions on Tuesday evenings until July 6. The weekly sessions are held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Health Department office at 1615 Dundas St. E., Whitby. The drop-in quit smoking support group has now been running for five weeks, aver aging five to six participants at each session. "The majority of participants have commented that they need a support group to give them an extra push," said Elizabeth Shantz, a public health nurse with the Health Department. "Group members have learned this and now realize they can help each other. Single motor vehicle collision on Best Road A 34-year-old female passenger passenger had to be cut out of a vehicle with the jaws of life following a single motor vehicle vehicle collision last Tuesday on Best Rd., Orono. At approximately 9:50 p.m. on June 1st, officers responded to a serious single motor vehicle collision on Best Road, just north of Concession Road Eight. The collision involved a 1990 white Pontiac Bonneville that had entered the west ditch of Best Road and struck a tree. The driver, a 34-yeair-old Orono man and a female passenger passenger from Scarborough were transported to Lakeridge Health Bowmanville Hospital by ambulance. The female was later airlifted to Sunnybrook and Women's College Health Sciences Centre Hospital in Toronto with serious but non-life threatening threatening injuries. The driver was arrested, treated for minor injuries and taken to the Clarington Community Police Office. Charged is Vincent R. Lynch, age 34 of Best Road in Orono with: impaired driving causing bodily harm and refusing to provide a blood sample. The accused is to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice, 850 King Street West in Oshawa on Monday June 28th, 2004 to answer to the charges.
