Move'n on The village of Orono is adjusting to the absence of local characters. Jimmy Tabb and Ralph Wood have both moved to nursing homes in the past two weeks. Jimmy has been lonesome - and depressed since Gracie, the love of his lifeLdied last winter, and his health has been failing. Two weeks ago Jimmy moved to Fosterbrooke Long-Term Care Facility Newcastle, Room 211. Ralph Wood moved to Hillsdale Manor on Monday. Walking had become increasingly difficult difficult for Ralph as of late. These two men have played a special role in this community for many years. Jimmy has been a fixture in our downtown core as he was relentless in his efforts to keep the streets clean. Jimmy was kind of a 'man about town' in his assortment of sports jackets, contrasting slacks and shirts, sweeping up what others have left behind. Over the winter and spring Jimmy had become more withdrawn and we seldom saw him in town anymore. This was not the case with Ralph who was very sociable and always had time to share a joke and shoot the breeze with whomever would listen. Ralph, Orono's number one sports fan, was also a fixturé in town at the arena, as he was a spectator at anything that was going on since his retirement. For many years till his foot hurt too much, Ralph collected the recyclable papers from downtown businesses, took them home in his cart, bundled them and put them out at the curb for the recycling truck. Jimmy and Ralph will both be missed in the village. village. Being sociable beings, both men will, I'm sure, enjoy their new surroundings. I am also sure they would appreciate visits from their many friends from Orono. Letters to the Editor Thanks from Oak Ridges Trail Association Excitement? or boredom On behalf of the Oak Ridges Trail Association - Clarington Section, I would like to thank Marg and the Orono Times for the articles and photos published in the paper leading up to and after the recent 'grand opening' of our trail across the Clarington Section. As noted in the articles we had a successful day with approximately thirty people showing up to participate in this event. The support the Orono Times gives us helps to pro mote our trail and fulfill our mandate of public awareness. awareness. The trail is blazed and open to public use at all times and whether. it is a guided hike or a stroll through the woods at your own pace, you never know what wildlife or fauna awaits you around the next bend. Once again, thank you Marg. Rick Patterson Clarington Chair Dear Editor: Re: "To fish or not to fish" I suggest that the Orono Weekly Times owes its readership readership the best possible opinions and/or outright explanations on any subject that demands clarification. Clifford's "it's a pastime" and Gary's "it's a boring sport" arc wishy-washy at best. Let me make something perfectly clear: I am a professional professional sport fisherman. I have personally experienced and have first hand knowl edge on everything you would ever want to know about fishing. My obvious valued opinion opinion is offered here... so that everyone will be able to understand the "High"... one feels at the end of a fishing rod. It is an escape from reality. It is a mind boggling happening. It is just plain... wonderful. After hours of sitting in the hot sun... drinking warm beer... and proudly admiring your "catch"... a three pound carp, a bullfrog with no legs and a work boot that doesn't even fit... one is completely drained! You are light-headed. light-headed. It is sensual. I find that the only guaranteed guaranteed way to unwind, is to go home, relax, put your feet up, grab your favourite beverage beverage or drug, turn on the T.V. and watch about 40 seconds seconds of the Blue Jays. You have now personally experienced the two extreme differences between excitement excitement and boredom, although I keep getting the two mixed up. Kelly Adams Orono
