Leskard, Newcastle, NewtonviUe, Orono, Starkville and Tyrone since 193^ Country music recording star Julian Austin headlines at Orono Fair There will be a bit more country at this year's Orono Fair. That's because Canadian country music star, Julian Austin, will be performing Friday night in the south east horse ring. The 41-year-old New Brunswick born Austin began writing songs at the age of 13, and at 15 took his father's guitar guitar from the closet and began learning to play. In the past 25 years he's gone from heavy metal, to rock, to 80's pop and finally to country music - his love. Like many great's in the Country field, Austin has also spent his share of time in jail. Eight years ago Austin signed his first major album deal and recorded his best selling CD to date - What My Heart Already Knows. That album sold over 50,000 copies and earned Austin an award from the Canadian Country Music Association. Little Ol ' Kisses Austin's first single, went number one on radio and made the Country Music Television (CMT) top 30 videos of 1997. It was also selected as the best ■. . y . ■ ■ ' ■ ' ; '•.! country single at the first annual Canadian radio music awards in 1998. Austin's second album Back in Your Life, released in early in 2000 earned him six Canadian Country Music Awards nominations. His album Bullet-proof was released two years ago, and his latest It's a Good Life is expected to be in stores soon. In January this year, Austin and his band - "The l-2-9ers" joined several other Canadian artists and performed seven shows for the Canadian -Troops in Bosnia. Presently Austin lives with his wife Angela and beagle Baxter in Calgary Alberta, but vows to move back to the place where it all began. "I'm having a blast and am happier than I've ever been," quotes Austin, "and the music reflects that." The Julian Austin Concert at the Orono Fair begins at 8 p.m. Friday night September 10. The concert is included in the price of admission to the Fair.
