The tiny community of Kendal got the weather to cooperate and with their expertise, put on an exceptional exceptional Junior "C" provincial final. Sunday was a great day for baseball. The B.B.Q. was very busy with sausages, hot dogs, and hamburgers. The sum was bright but the temperature was not too hot. Not to disappoint the home town, the Royals of Kendal were undefeatWgding- into Sunday's action. They played a St. Catherine's team at eleven in the morning and it was a thrilling game. St. Catherines had lost in the first round so they had their backs against the wall. They started a left-handed pitcher, and scored a few runs early in the game to really put the pressure on the locals. It was an errorless errorless game with lots of fine catches and action, but alas at ^ttie^d^éfidâLotiùld musters S- no runs. That meant Kendal had to play Dundas to get into thé final. After beating Southwest London, Leamington, and Dundas in the earlier games, Kendal was not about to give up now. The game was scoreless scoreless going into the fifth inning thanks to plays like Jessie Robertson's pressure packed play in the third with the bases loaded. A beautiful drag bunt by Aaron Robinson helped score three runs in the fifth. Chet Martin and Jeff Thompson were on base when Aaron bunted. Then Brian Bickel lined a ball to first scoring another run. Kendal was back in the final! This time both St. Catherine's and Kendal had one loss, so the loser was out and the winner was the All- Ontario Champs. Again, it was a great ball game in perfect perfect conditions. Unfortunately, home runs in the first and second second innings spotted the Cougars from St. Kitts all the runs they needed. Kendal threatened in the fourth, fifth, and sixth, but were unable to plate a run. So Kendal was declared the runner-ups in this year's final. The boys can be very proud of their efforts. They played excellent baseball baseball and showed good sportsmanship sportsmanship and perseverance. Brian Foster and Ted Stark can also be very proud of the tournament they arranged. They dedicated the tournament to long time volunteer volunteer Ed Couroux (I spelled it right this time Ed, sorry). He has played, coached and. kept the field in immaculate shape for many many years. They also arranged for the comfort of the spectators with great refreshments and even an announcer to compliment the electronic score board. For the final two games of the tournament, tournament, they provided four excellent umpires who looked very professional in their coordinated uniforms. A tip of the hat to Brian, Ted and all the helpers for a great show. Orono Figure Skating Club WINTER REGISTRATION DATES » < , >■ < _ * .
